Vince McMahon Reportedly Behind Removal Of NXT War Games Cage Roof
During a conference call yesterday, Triple H revealed that there will be no roof on the cage at NXT Takeover: War Games, which is a tradition for the match. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via SportsKeeda), Dave Meltzer said it was Vince McMahon’s call to remove the roof from the match.
The match already has some different rules from the initial concept. There will be three teams instead of two and shark cages will hold the teams before they enter the match. Pinfalls will be allowed once all teams are inside. Triple H said the absence of the roof was because it would be “limiting” what today’s superstars could do in the match. McMahon reportedly made the final decision, however.
The match will feature The Undisputed Era (Bobby Fish, Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly) vs. The Authors of Pain & Roderick Strong vs. SAnitY (Eric Young, Killian Dane and Alexander Wolfe). It airs this Saturday on the WWE Network.
For what it’s worth, the ceiling on the cage has caused problems in a War Games match before. At WCW’s WrestleWar 1991 event, Sid Vicious caused Brian Pillman to hit his head on the cage while being lifted for a powerbomb.
