William Regal Wanted to Sign Wheeler Yuta & More To WWE NXT

William Regal has confirmed that he wanted to sign three current AEW stars to WWE NXT before the brand changed its direction. Alex McCarthy of TalkSPORT recently spoke with Regal for an interview and noted on Twitter that during the interview, Regal confirmed that he was “planning to sign Daniel Garcia, Ricky Starks, and Wheeler Yuta to NXT before WWE ‘changed directive,” in McCarthy’s words.

Regal’s comment confirms a report from August of 2011 that Yuta, who had a tryout with WWE in May of 2020, was someone who was considered a “slam dunk” to be signed but was ultimately passed on, which was considered a sign of WWE changing their hiring practices.
