This is WWR’s Somerville debut!

Veda Scott Open Challenge

Veda is out to inform the crowd that original opponent Chelsea Green isn’t there so Veda declares an open challenge. Laurel Van Ness stumbles out in a stained wedding dress, wine bottle in hand and accepts. Veda says this is an open challenge and not an open bar. Laurel asks “why not both?” Chelse….errrr…Laurel has a hard time keeping up offense and not succumbing to the effects of her drink, mostly providing sloppy drunk offense and kicking out, much to Veda’s frustration. The end comes when Van Ness is distracted, flirting with Ref Quinn while Veda take a drink from the wine bottle. She mists Laurel and hits a shining wizard for the pin. Bizarre opening match.

Winner: Veda Scott

Faye Jackson vs Skylar

Skylar is aggressive early, surprising Jackson with some quick pin attempts. Skylar with diving double knees for a near fall. Jackson with THREE running hip attacks and a cannonball for a near fall. Skyler with a running face buster. Jackson gets the pin with a earthquake splash and falcon arrow. I wish this had 2-3 more minutes as it just started to pick up in the last few sequences.

Winner: Faye Jackson

Onterribles (Leah Vaughan & Kaitlin Diemond) vs. Team Sea Stars (Ashley Vox & Delmi Exo w/ Jawsolyn)

The Onterribles are Canadian and they hate America. The Sea Stars are delightful sea creature. Delmi starts against Vaughn, who breaks out of a headlock to attempt to sneeze on the American flag. Delmi saves the flag (for America). Diemond works over Ashley getting into a spot where all four ladies are in a group submission. Onterribles feign a dive to the outside but the Stars cut off their taunting. Sea Stars escape a widow’s leak and put the Diemond away with a Hart Attack.

Winners: Team Sea Stars

Davienne (w/ Sammi Lane) vs Maria Manic (w/ Penelope Ford)

This is a battle of two women who looks like larger, more powerful versions of their seconds. They go power for power early, with a couple of sloppy spots trying to hop the ropes. Manic hits a running drop kick and Famouser with Davienne trapped in the rope but her opponent grabs the rope before the three. Davienne hits a running drop kick to a grounded Maria. They battle back and forth until Lane distracts Maria, allowing Davienne to catch Manic with a show stopper for the pin. Post-match, Sammi Lane awkwardly puts a Davienne shirt around Manic’s neck (trying to put it on her). That could have gone better, as the crowd seemed confused by it.

Winner: Davienne

MJ Jenkins vs Vanity

MJ demands Ref Quinn rolls out a red carpet before she entered. She makes the mistake of singing at her opponent during her initial offense. Vanity responds in kind and then levels her with a series of shoulder blocks and arm drags. MJ takes control again, dragging Vanity’s face across the ropes and taunting the crowd with her incessant singing. Vanity almost gets the tap on a prolonged ankle lock. Ending came out of the blue after what seemed to be botched kick out from Vanity. Until that moment, this was a good match.

Winner: MJ Jenkins

Taeler Hendrix vs Rachael Ellering

They tie up early, both ladies working over the head and shoulder. Ellering with running senton. Hendrix with a nasty looking superkick. Taeler is in full heel mode, throwing her wrist band into Racheal’s face, taking her back and almost getting a submission off a bridging chokehold. Ellering hits a running enziguri and is bleeding from the mouth, probably a result of that super kick. Taeler capitalizes with another choke submission. They trade pin counters and strikes and big boots. Ellering with a near fall of a 2nd rope springboard leg rope. Alexxis runs down to distract Ellering, allowing Hendrix to hit a kick to the back of the head for the pin. Hendrix’s facial expressions are excellent.

Winner: Taeler Hendrix

Barbi Hayden vs Alexxis

Hayden hits the ring while Hendrix and Alexxis celebrate from the last match, take the fight to Alexxis right away. Hendrix provides some distraction, allowing Alexxis to take control. She runs her mouth the whole time. Hayden reverses a tornado DDT into a fisherman suplex but Alexxis strikes back with a X-Factor. Barbi catches Alexxis charged and rolls her up for a quick three. Hendrix and Alexxis beat Hayden down post-match until the Sea Stars come down to save her. They celebrate with Hayden after running the heels off.

Winner: Barbi Hayden

Tessa Blanchard vs Jordynne Grace

They trade armbars and arm locks to start, feeling each other out. They have a couple of prolonged sequences, allowing Grace to show off her athleticism with cartwheels and a rope-assisted flip. Grace almost get the pin of a hangman’s DDT. Blanchard makes a comeback with a cutter and they fight to the outside. Back in, Blanchard with a huge spear on Grace lays them both out. Grace stays aggressive with a corner kick and muscle buster. Blanchard almost gets the pin off a hangman’s code breaker. Blanchard stacks up Grace after she catches her charging but Jordynne gets the win with a bear hug, ragdolling her until she passes out. This was fun.

Winner: Jordynne Grace

Overall, this could have been a good show but was marred by length (total show time was about 1:30) and some awkward spots that didn’t land and a lack of connection to a small and quiet crowd (they were quiet but they didn’t have a lot to cheer for outside the main event). The main event was quite good, as was Hendrix/Ellering. I do want to see this again on Beyond’s YouTube channel because the commentary I overheard from Denver Colorado & Veda Scott (in particular) was pretty good.
