WWE NXT House Show Results – Roode vs. Dillinger, Nakamura & Joe in Six-Man Action, More
Australian House Show Report – Gold Coast, Qld
I’ll just say up front that Australian crowds are easy to impress, ¾ of stuff got a good-to-great reaction with little effort. Crowd was about 2/3 full at the Convention Centre. Probably around 2000 there. Surprisingly, there was not a lot of promo around this show locally.
Matches
1) Akira Tozawa def. Andrade “Cien” Almas – Decent opener. Played it for comedy early, then picked up the pace. Some good action before they traded a couple of near falls before the finish.
2) Billie Kay & Peyton Royce def. Liv Morgan & Aliyah. Worst match of the night with the least heat and reaction. More boring than anything. Kay and Royce got the cheap heat declaring they wanted to be announced as from Florida instead of Australia. Botched finish.
3) Oney Lorcan def. Patrick Clark. Both guys got lukewarm receptions but worked hard and got the crowd into it. Lorcan showed some good babyface fire and Clarke did every cheap heat trick in the book and worked pretty smooth. OK match by the finish.
4) Buddy Murphy def. Elias Sampson. Sampson got the cheap heat before the match running down the people of the Gold Coast. Murphy, the Australian, got huge pop. Solid, athletic match. Sampson took a bump off some phantom offence but they recovered and went to the finish.
5) DIY def. Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss. Crowd was hot for DIY and HATED Sabbatelli. Excellent heat for the match and they worked it well. Not as action packed as your usual DIY match but all four played off the crowd and made it really fun.
Intermission
6) Bobby Roode Def. Tye Dillinger. Crowd loved both guys. All the usual spots that these two are known for. Surprisingly short with Roode winning after The Arrival distracted Dillinger. Most reports from other shows had them as match of the night, but they only worked for about 6 minutes before going home. These two ended up in the main event on double duty which may have caused the time cut.
7) Asuka def. Ember Moon. They did a shoulder block spot during the opening exchanges that Moon either didn’t know was coming or wasn’t set for. Sick sounding collision and she took a good 20 seconds to recover. During the next exchange Moon elbows Asuka right in the back of the head in what looked like a receipt. Things slowed right down and they worked much lighter with a lot of rest holds after that point. Picked up down the stretch and started working really stiff by the end. Really good and they will probably have some brutal matches when it’s for the cameras and not a house show.
8) Shinsuke Nakamura, TM61 & Tye Dillinger def. Samoa Joe, Booby Roode & The Arrival. Joe came out with his elbow heavily taped. The heels jumped TM61 during the intro when Dillinger and then Roode came out to join in. Nakamura then came in and evened up the numbers and the heels accepted the 8-man tag challenge. Joe barely worked the match and Nakamura only was in for a few minutes, did the usual and got the pin on Roode. The Arrival and TM61 did most of the heavy lifting, Roode and Dillinger kept their shtick going from earlier and Nakamura and Joe added the star power at the right time. One of the smoke and mirror matches where you think you’ve seen a great match but it’s just good because the guys in there know how to work the crowd without killing themselves.
Overall: Fun night. Nothing terrible. The women’s tag was just boring, but the rest was solid-good matches in front of a hot crowd and a good atmosphere.
