WWE Reportedly Met With FOX, CBS, Disney & More Over the Summer
– WWE had meetings with FOX, CBS, Disney and more over the new summer, according to a new report. According to Sports Business Journal, top executives including George Barrios and Triple H met with FOX executives this summer along with the other networks, plus Amazon and YouTube. The meetings were done in order to discuss ways to showcase their programming. WWE has worked with FOX in the past, notably in the early 1990s with a couple of episodes of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The bit was noted as part of a larger article about the UFC’s contract with FOX ending and UFC looking to make a major leap in their revenue for the deal. The article notes that a channel like FOX Sports 1 could consider WWE to be “acceptable replacement programming in case it loses UFC rights.”
It must be noted, as the article does, that WWE is not currently negotiating with other networks regarding moving programming. Their contract with NBC Universal for Raw and Smackdown (as well as Tribute to the Troops) runs through September of 2019. WWE’s negotiating is exclusive to NBC Universal until spring of next year. The site notes that WWE will earn a total of $180 million this year due to their deal with the company.
