WWE Summerslam Unlikely To Be Allowed To Happen in Boston According to Mayor’s Announcement
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced on Twitter today that events that bring people in close contact to each other, like a concert, that are scheduled prior to September 7th, should start looking for alternative plans now.
WWE Summerslam weekend is scheduled to take place in Boston from Friday, August 21st to Monday, August 24th. Walsh’s tweets would seem to indicate that they will not allow those shows to go on as planned.
WWE will likely have to either move Summerslam weekend to the WWE Performance Center or to a state that is allowing live events with crowds at that time.
We are planning a healthy re-opening and an equitable recovery process—as soon as the health data tells us it is safe. But we do not envision a point this summer when it will make sense to have large crowds gathered in close contact for prolonged periods.

I can announce that parades and festivals will not take place this summer in the City of Boston,
up to and including Labor Day on September 7.— Mayor Marty Walsh (@marty_walsh) May 8, 2020
For smaller events, we will be looking at them on a case-by-case basis as we move through the summer months.

If your event brings crowds together in close contact–like a concert, a road race, or a flag raising– you should start looking at alternatives now.
