D23: New Story Details Revealed for Toy Story 5, Toys vs. Electronics

Nearly 30 years after the first film was released in theaters, Disney showcased the next installment of the beloved Toy Story franchise during Friday’s studio showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. During the showcase, Pixar Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter shared new story details and concept art (see above) for the upcoming sequel, Toy Story 5.

Hitting theaters in 2026, Toy Story 5 will feature a story of toy versus tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang see their jobs getting exponentially harder when they go head to head with an all-new threat to playtime with the kids. Andrew Stanton (WALL*E, Finding Nemo, Finding Dory) directs the fifth film, which is co-directed by McKenna Harris and produced by Jessica Choi.

Toy Story 5 opens in theaters on June 19, 2026. You an also check out the newly revealed logo below. The latest sequel, Toy Story 4, was released in 2019, grossing $1.073 billion worldwide. It also won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2020.
