On the latest episode of Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy, the AEW star talked about the first-ever WWE Money in the Bank ladder match and more. You can check out some highlights below:

On Chris Jericho coming up with MITB concept: “I think it was an interesting idea at first. When I first heard about it, I was like, ‘Well, this is something. It’s a lot. So, if you win this briefcase, you can just cash in anytime, and one of the title. It seems like a very unfair advantage.’ But I like it, and it fits like a hand in glove in pro wrestling. Because it is super sports entertainment-y. And I like that you can elevate new hot guys, and they can win a title, even if it’s someone who may not have earned it or been super credible, if they just like to grab the championship and win it. But it gives you a point where you can take someone who’s new, who’s hot, who’s on the rise, and you can give them credibility by having cash it in and win it. And they don’t even have to have it, or keep it that long. But it has become a great tool that is able to elevate people and also keep storylines fresh. And also keep the unpredictability factor very high, which I love more than anything else in pro wrestling.”

On whether there was talk of him being in the first one: “No, I was out hurt during the first one. So that was before I was cleared to come back and work, so no… the timetable would not have fit originally. So yeah, there was not.”

On the importance of Edge’s first MITB cash-in: “Whenever he won Money in the Bank, it allowed him to be able to cash that in. And it kind of set the precedent for like kind of, ‘What does this Money in the Bank mean? If you win this match, and you become the Money in the Bank briefcase holder, what does it mean?’ And he kind of set the example. He was the first, so that’s always a big deal, that always cements your name somewhere special and important, if it’s a concept that gets over and you were the first. And then once again, it allowed him to cash in and win the World Title. Which once again, elevates him and adds value to him.”
