Hector Lombard Hopes to Appeal UFC 222 DQ Loss
UFC fighter Hector Lombard spoke to reporters in a media scrum (via MMAjunkie) after his disqualification loss at last night’s UFC 222 event. During the FS1 prelims, Lombard fought CB Dollaway and lost the fight via disqualification after a late striking exchange had Lombard hitting Dollaway after the round was over. The exchange left Dollaway knocked down and the fight was waved off. Below are some highlights
Lombard on the final striking exchange: “It was in action. You know, we’re exchanging. He threw a kick, and I’m coming back. You’re in the fight. If the referee doesn’t get in and say (stop), but if you’re in action and you throw a kick, I follow through with one-two. … The referee didn’t step in and say anything.”
Lombard’s thoughts on Dollaway: “I always say he didn’t want to fight. He didn’t want to continue. … We’re fighters. I’ve been in that situation before. You just get up. He was just talking and everything. (If) you want to continue the fight, you continue.”
Lombard on wanting a rematch: “I would love to (have a rematch). I know he won’t beat me, but it’s up to the UFC, up to him, whatever he wants to do. I want to get another fight quick.”
Hector Lombard on wanting to appeal the decision: “Oh yeah, definitely. She’s going to take a look at the original video because it’s kind of like — if the referee doesn’t step in, he throwing a kick, I’m throwing back — it’s in action. The referee has to pull us apart. I don’t know.”
