Derek Campos Says Patricky Freire Has Holes In His Game
Derek Compos spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Patricky Freire at Bellator 152. You can check out some highlights below:
On their first fight, in which Campos lost: “I don’t feel like my skills were honed, and mentally, I don’t think I was all there. Patricky showed up and won because he was the better fighter that day. I know my mistakes and what I did wrong, so this time it’s going to be different. I just got to bring my all to the table, and once Patricky feels that will and power, he’s going to break.”
On his win over Melvin Guillard: “I believed in myself going into that fight, but it was more so just proving to myself my own ability. Coming off two losses can mess with your head. Going in that Melvin fight, it was do-or-die. More than anything, I just wanted to prove to myself and remind myself what I am as a fighter. I was able to accomplish that by knocking Melvin out.”
On Freire: “I’m not trying to dog him or anything, but I see something in his game where he’s the same. He’s a fighter, and he’s going to bring it, so it would be foolish to think he’s not dangerous. That’s the first mistake I could make. But he might be a little stagnant and have some holes in his game that I’ve got to capitalize on. I believe I’ve had my ups and downs, and I know what I need to do as a fighter against Patricky. I know that I’m going to beat him. I believe that I’m going to beat him, and I know what I need to do.”
On his next fight if he wins: “I’d love to fight the winner of Chandler vs. Thomson, or at the same time if one of those guys gets hurt and they need somebody to step in, I would love to be that guy. From here, it’s just taking care of business with Patricky then going on to the next guy. Hopefully either Chandler or Thomson (is next) because I would love to fight one of those guys, or getting a title shot.”
