WWE Hoping to Launch a Weekly Show From The Women’s Tournament
– According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan for the WWE women’s tournament is to be similar to the Cruiserweight Classic, where it will be taped at Full Sail University, and air over 10-11 weeks on the WWE Network.
Most of the best women who do not have an existing contract with WWE or another promotion, are expected to be invited, including American and U.K.-based women who tour for Stardom. Women had been contacted a couple of months ago and told to clear their schedules for late May, so the tapings may begin at that time.
Toni Storm (Progress/STARDOM) & Io Shirai (STARDOM) have been contacted for the tournament. Names like Tessa Blanchard (independent) and Jinny (Progress) are also expected to be involved. Nixon Newell and Kairi Hojo also scheduled to start with WWE around that time and will likely be involved.
The idea is to come out of the tournament and start a weekly show for the women, similar to 205 Live being launched for the cruiserweights.
