The Ultimate Fighter 27: Episode One
INTRODUCTION: Season 27 of the Ultimate Fighter is here. This season will feature undefeated featherweights and lightweights, with current UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic against current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier serving as the coaches ahead of their upcoming fight. There will be a lightweight and a featherweight winner.

– Everyone arrives at the UFC gym, and the fighters warm up for evaluations. Cormier & Miocic come of as engaged as coaches early on and are playful with each other, having a good time. Dana White arrives and hypes the season. And now we pick teams. Cormier wins the cointoss and picks the first fighter.

TEAM MIOCIC
FW: Kyler Phillips (5-0)
FW: Suman Mokhtarian (8-0)
LW: Mike Trizano (6-0)

LW: Luis Pena (4-0)
LW: Joe Giannetti (6-0)
FW: Brad Katona (6-0)
LW: Thailand Clark (7-0)
FW: Ricky Steele (5-0)

– Miocic gets the first fight pick and we’re getting John Gunther (6-0) vs. Joe Giannetti (6-0). Joe Giannetti trains with Miocic.

– The fighters arrive at the house. They all talk about how none of them have tasted defeat and that we should see some great fights this season. Many of them feel this is a dream come true as some of them were training for local fights just weeks before the call.

– Team Miocic starts their training day as John Gunther prepares for his fight. The team is receptive to Miocic’s training style so far, feeling that he gives a lot of information while not overwhelming them.

– We see Team Cormier training, as Joe Giannetti prepares for his fight. Cormier brought in Cain Velasquez to help him and we all hope that he doesn’t trip & fall, otherwise he’ll be out another year. But in all seriousness, Cain comes off as a really good coach here.

– Back at the house, the guys chill, play pool, and share stories of their life outside the house. Gunther sheers alpacas & llamas for his day job. We get some home video of Gunther. He lives in his van and trains at Miocic’s gym. We see him swimming under the ice in a frozen lake, this dude is a crazy fucker. He grew up on a farm and is one of 10 kids.

– Back at the gym, we see Giannetti preparing for his fight. They also show some footage of his fights on small shows, choking fools out. Cormier says he needs a sense of urgency since these are only 2-round, 10-minute fights. We get home video of Giannetti. He has a dog and cat, and the dog goes with him to the gym. He was a fat kid growing up and got made fun of and harassed a lot, which led him to fighting. He’s been homeless and slept in cars before. He does everything to pay his dad back for all he’s done for him.

– We now see footage of Gunther fighting on small shows, dude can take a lot of punishment from what they show. He also has a great mustache.

– Cormier and Miocic talk some shit, and says Miocic should reveal his next fight pick. Cormier wants them to have the best face the best. Cormier is having fun stirring the pot here.

WEIGH-INS: Giannetti (155.5), Gunther (154.75).

– We get the usual pre-fight warm-ups.

LIGHTWEIGHT BOUT: John Gunther (6-0) vs. Joe Giannetti (6-0): ROUND ONE: The records and height are even, while Giannetti has a 2.5 inch reach advantage. Herb Dean is the official. Gunther comes out firing, but Giannetti locks on a guillotine for the quick submission. OFFICIAL RESULT: Joe Giannetti via RD1 submission

– Team Cormier is up 1-0.

– Giannetti is hyped up after his win. Gunther doesn’t even remember the fight.

Next week: FW: Kyler Phillips (5-0) vs. FW: Brad Katona (6-0). We then get a video preview of the rest of the season.
