During a recent interview with Muscle Man Malcolm on Muscle Memory, former WWE Superstar and Harvard Law School graduate, David Otunga, discussed nearly getting the nod for a singles push at one point, but having a conflict with Sheamus over using the Kryptonite Krunch as his finisher.

According to Otunga, Fit Finaly suggested he use the Kryptonite Krunch as a finisher. However, Sheamus reportedly wanted to use it instead, but later came up with using White Noise as his finisher instead. Below are some highlights:

Otunga on if He Was Ever In Line for a Singles Push or Title Run in WWE

“Yes, there was. And you know, the thing of it is is like they would have these conversations, but never with me. And then, like I would find out like from the agents. I remember. But hold on, before I get into the story. Yes, there was definitely a conversation. I was supposed to win the US title from Santino [Marella] at one point or another. Yeah. And I don’t know what happened with it, but it went another direction or something, whatever. But I remember one time, like Jamie Noble, good guy, right? He used to give me crap all the time just because I was green, and you know, just because I was new, so he would just give me crap all the time. But then I remember literally like one day, you know, you know, he’s telling me whatever. The next day, he comes out of the meeting, all right, sounds good. We’ve got to come up with a new finisher for you. And I’m like, what? And all of a sudden, he’s all interested in me like, what’s this about? He’s like, ‘No, you’re about to be a top guy. Yeah. No, I heard it. Just this, it is what it is. This is a Vince call. You’re going to be a top guy. And like, he was kind of mad about it. He was telling me this, and I was like, ‘Oh, all right.’

David Otunga on Sheamus Not Wanting Him To Use the Kryptonite Krunch

“And so then, and to prove I’m not making this up, I tested a couple of different ones out. And I used — Fit Finlay was there and suggested I use the Kryptonite Krunch, which I’m going to get to this. I almost spoiled it. So I had a match against Santino. I think it was on Superstars, and I used it as the finish. I went over it looked great. I got in the back, Jamie Noble comes over to me because he was the agent, and I said, ‘How’d I do?’ He goes, ‘Man, it looked like a million bucks. Looked like you killed him, but you can’t use that anymore.’ And I was like, ‘What?’ ‘Yeah. Sheamus got upset because he said it’s an Irish thing, and he’d like to now start using it.’ After that, Sheamus comes out with White Noise a week or two later. Boy, I was heated. So there is a video of me using it. So, you know, I’m not making this up. That’s also why you never saw me use it again. Oh, man. No, that would have been perfect, too, cuz he doesn’t really use it that often anymore. It was kind of like a if it was like a finisher at one point, they kind of turned it into a signature move almost. That’s why I feel like Sheamus was dirty to do that, cuz I really could have used it then. He didn’t need it, but just well, you know, that’s what it is. But Sheamus is my guy. Shout out to him. Although Sheamo, you know you were dirty for that. You were.”

As previously reported, Otunga has also begun his own WWE YouTube channel, where he spoke at length about WWE’s contract issues and non-compete clauses.
