Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of UFC Fight Night: Buckley vs. Malott, I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be your host. The UFC is back in Canada for this one and brought a lot of Canadian fighters for it, for better or for worse. The main event is a fairly relevant welterweight affair when Joaquin Buckley takes on Mike Malott, and while neither man is likely to get a title shot off of a win here they could see title aspirations evaporate with a loss. Things get a little light after that, Erin Blanchfield and Jasmine Jasudavicius could be fighting for a title shot since half of the vacant title fight was ranked lower than both of them but the UFC clearly doesn’t care about women’s flyweight all that much so who knows. Kyle Nelson welcomes Christian Perez to the UFC, Marc-Andre Barriault is usually good for a fight, Mandel Nallo is after his first UFC win as well. On the prelims we’ve got not much to actually spark interest. It’s really not an inspiring card on paper, so let’s just hope the action delivers.
UFC Fight Night: Buckley vs. Malott comes to the world from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. On commentary we’ve got Brendan Fitzgerald along with Paul Felder and Dominick Cruz while Joe Martinez does announcing and McKenzie Pavacich handles roving reporter duties. We’ll be in the 30 foot cage since we’re out of the warehouse but I’m not sure which rules Alberta uses. I’m going to assume they use the newer rules until corrected, but if of course if contrary information comes to my attention I’ll update things.
Su Young You has gone 2-1 in the UFC but he’s coming off of that loss which broke a six fight unbeaten streak, now he’s trying to avoid his first losing streak. Cody Chovancek is undefeated and makes his UFC debut on the back of a Contender Series win, now he’s trying to make the most of his one chance at a first impression. The odds are close but lean to Chovancek at -125 to +105 for You.
Bantamweight Bout: Cody Chovancek (9-0, 135.5 lbs.) vs. SuYoung You (16-4 2 NC, 135.5 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Chovancek has two and a half inches of height and reach over You. Both men open southpaw. Chovancek moves forward and looks to jab, he’s showing some stance switches as well. You shows some stance changes too as he’s circling. Single leg from You and he’s got Chovancek, Chovancek wall walks into a clinch but You slips to the back and drags things to the mat into a crab ride. Chovancek looks to roll, You moves into leg drag though. Some body blows from You, then Chovancek scrambles to full guard. Chovancek works for an omoplata, You avoids that and hits another single leg as Chovancek tried to wrestle up. Half guard now for You, but Chovancek gets full guard back. A few body to head punches from You then an elbow. You is able to to stand and land a few punches before going back into the guard. Now You passes and mounts the legs, Chovancek gets half guard back but he’s still stuck on his back. A few more body to head punches from You then he passes nearly to mount as the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 You
ROUND TWO: Chovancek is able to counter a takedown to start the round and get on top. You rolls for a leg lock, he’s got a kneebar attack going and sweeps with it. Chovancek has landed some elbows and You is bleeding a bit. They wrestle up, hit the fence, and You hits an outside trip into half guard. You passes to full mount. A few short blows from You but he’s mostly trying to open up an arm triangle attack. You gets some posture now and lands a few punches while still trying to open up a choke attack. Chovancek tries to shrimp but You blocks it. More body to head punches from You, elbows would work well for him here. Chovancek does finally shrimp and get half guard but he can’t keep it and You passes back to full mount. You lands a few more punches and then tries another arm triangle but the fence is complicating things. You now moves to S mount but Chovancek squirms around and gets out of that but ends the round on bottom with You landing punches.
SCORECARD: 10-9 You, 20-18 You overall
ROUND THREE: They touch gloves for the final round. Chovancek looks to rush with knees, misses and You hits a takedown. Chovancek wall walks but You trips him down and gets back on top in half guard. Eventually Chovancek has to settle for full guard, not a great indicator for him. You with some body to head punches. Chovancek is able to stand but You gets the back and drags him into a crab ride. You gets both hooks in. You switches to full mount and lands some more punches. Arm triangle attack from You, Chovancek is on a hip though and I don’t think You has long enough arms for the kaiju choke. Chovancek rolls and gets guard again but his hopes of actually getting up are slim. More body punches from You then he passes to half guard. Kimura attack from You, he’s got the double wrist grab but the fence is going to complicate things so You passes to side control. You is still after that kimura, he steps over the head and cranks the arm to get the late submission.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Su Young You via Submission, kimura, at 4:19 of Round 3
The Final Round Finish Club thanks Mr. You for his work. No interview for You.
The finish can be seen HERE.
Melissa Croden has gone 2-1 in the UFC but that’s been enough to get her a ranking, now she’s trying to get her first UFC winning streak going. Chelsea Chandler has gone 3-3 in the UFC including a couple of weight misses during that stretch, she is coming off of a win though and now tries to find her first UFC winning streak. Croden is a notable favorite at -340 to Chandler’s +270 comeback.
Women’s Bantamweight Bout: Chelsea Chandler (7-4, 135.5 lbs.) vs. #15 Melissa Croden (8-3, 136 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Croden has half an inch of height and reach advantage. Southpaw for Chandler. Croden stalks forward early as both women show the lead hand. Right hand from Croden. They clinch up and Chandler pushes things to the fence. Elbow from Croden as she spins Chandler. They break and Croden lands an elbow and some punches before Chandler clinches up again. They break and Croden lands a few punches. Another clinch, some knees are traded then Croden pushes Chandler over to get on top. Croden lands some strikes on the mat then stands free and makes Chandler stand. Both women land punches, Croden with knees in the clinch then a trip. Chandler scrambles around looking for an arm attack, they scramble around and Chandler winds up breaking the arm of Croden to get the stoppage.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Chelsea Chandler via Submission, kimura, at 4:52 of Round 1
The First Round Finish Club thanks Ms. Chandler for her work. Mic time for Chandler, she talks about working hard then talks us through the finish. Asked about the future she wants Luana Santos. Reasonable call out overall.

Chad Anheliger is almost 40, has gone just 2-3 in the UFC, is 1-3 in his last few fights and hasn’t fought since November of 2024. Somehow he’s not coming off the longest layoff in this fight though, and he’s trying to find his way back into the winner’s circle. Steven Koslow suffered his first professional loss in his UFC debut which was in December of 2022 and he’s been MIA ever since, now he’s looking for that all important first UFC win despite the near 4 year layoff. Given how long these two have been on the shelf it’s logical that the odds are fairly close, -170 on Koslow to +140 for Anheliger.
Bantamweight Bout: Chad Anheliger (13-8, 135 lbs.) vs. Steven Koslow (6-1, 135 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Koslow is an inch and a half taller with four and a half inches of reach advantage, he’s also a full decade younger at 29. Southpaw for Koslow. Anheliger shows some calf kicks early. Left hand from Koslow then he hits a trip takedown to get on top in full guard. Anheliger works his guard up, he’s trying to invert for a leg but Koslow blocks that and retains top position. A few punches from Koslow, Anheliger is keeping active and attacking his balance though. Koslow passes to half guard. Anheliger gets back to full guard. Anheliger kicks the knee as Koslow stood then Koslow goes back into the guard. A few short elbows from Koslow land as the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Koslow
ROUND TWO: Anheliger stalks forward early. Bit of a body kick from Koslow. Bit of a right from Anheliger. Koslow moves forward and both men land rights. Anheliger hits the body then Koslow lands a right hand. Both men land punches in close. Koslow lands a body kick then hits a takedown against the fence. Anheliger is after a guillotine, he uses that to roll through to get on top holding the front headlock. Combination from Anheliger then he separates off the fence. Bit of a high kick from Koslow then he hits a takedown into half guard. Elbows from Koslow then a hammer fist and he passes to side control. Kimura attack from Koslow but Anheliger gets his arm free. Koslow moves to the ride, he’s got both hooks in now and then moves to mount. Some punches from Koslow but Anheliger is deflecting a lot of them. Koslow attacks an arm triangle, Anheliger gives up the back to survive the final 10 seconds of the round.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Koslow, 20-18 Koslow overall
ROUND THREE: Anheliger got up limping after that last round. Anheliger gets moving forward, he misses a right hand and Koslow lands a counter left. Right hand from Anheliger. Both men land lefts. Koslow lands a few low kicks then blocks a head kick. Body kick from Koslow. Koslow keeps showing that body kick now. Anheliger lands a right to the body. Another right to the body from Anheliger. Koslow hits a takedown into half guard, like clockwork he’s been hitting those at the halfway point of the rounds. Koslow passes to side control and lands some short elbows. 3/4 mount for Koslow now, then he attacks an arm triangle and uses that to get the back. Body triangle for Koslow and he’s after the choke. Anheliger is hand fighting but Koslow gets the choke locked up and forces the tap with 30 seconds left.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Steven Koslow via Submission, rear naked choke, at 4:31 of Round 3
The Final Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Koslow for his work. Mic time for Koslow, he thanks God then says he’s here in Edmonton to be a light as the city is full of darkness. They cut his interview short after that.

Katlyn Cerminara is currently on a two fight losing streak and has been out of action since March of 2024, she’s trying for her first win since 2022 here. Mackenzie Stiller stepped in on short notice to replace Jamey-Lyn Horth, she is on a three fight winning streak though and now looks for the biggest win of her career. With the replacement opponent it’s not surprising to see Cerminara at -245 to Stiller’s +200.

Javad Mahjoub is undefeated in MMA and had a fairly successful Judo career before making the move to MMA, now he’s looking to make the most of his chance to make a first impression. Joel Faglier is also undefeated coming into this fight and he’s also trying to prove he’s a prospect of note in the still pretty crappy heavyweight division. Given how volatile heavyweight is in general, to say nothing of lower level heavyweight fights, Faglier at -130 to +110 on Mahjoub makes sense.
Heavyweight Bout: Joel Faglier (6-0, 261 lbs.) vs. Javad Mahjoub (5-0, 252.5 lbs.)

Left the body then a right hand. Faglier with more body blows, Mahjoub swings back but he’s falling apart. Mahjoub falls failing a takedown and Faglier fires more punches to the downed Mahjoub until the ref steps in.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Joel Faglier via TKO, punches, at 2:11 of Round 2
Mic time for Faglier, he says he’s never out of a fight unless he’s actually unconscious. He knew Mahjoub was gassed but admits to being hurt, he’s just in great shape and knows cardio wins fights. He plays with the crowd a bit and puts over the Oilers for a cheap pop, then dedicates the win to his son who passed away last year.
CARDIO & CHIN 😎
Joel Faglier puts his HEART in the Octagon and gets the R2 TKO!

Julien Leblanc dropped his UFC debut back in April and now he’s hoping his sophomore outing is more successful. Galanti is the biggest favorite on the card at -700 to +500 on Leblanc.
Middleweight Bout: Nick Galanti (8-1, 185.5 lbs.) vs. Julien Leblanc (10-3, 185 lbs.)

Choke attack from Galanti and he’s got enough of a crank going to force the tap.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Nick Galanti via Submission, neck/face crank, at 1:26 of Round 1
The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Galanti for his work. Mic time for Galanti, he’s very happy and then plays with the crowd despite having to pay the foreigner tax. He talks us through the finish then jokes he’ll be training with Sean Brady again and that will humble him all over again.

The Final Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Boser for his work. Mic time for Boser, he can’t put into words what this means and mentions it’s been 7 years since he fought in Edmonton in the UFC and it means the world to him. He says the plan was always to wrestle Diniz and jokes he’s at 100% on his takedowns because he hit all 3 in this fight and those are the first takedowns he’s shot in the UFC. Marc-Andre Barriault has gone 6-10 in the UFC with a No Contest thrown in for good measure, he’s just 1-5 in his last six fights and is on a two fight losing streak. Given the UFC’s recent shift in priorities he might not get cut with another loss but hitting what would be his third three fight losing streak in the UFC can’t be good for his career trajectory. Kyle Daukaus has gone 2-1 since returning to the UFC last year, he’s coming off of a loss though and is trying to avoid another losing streak. Daukaus closed at -200 to +165 for Barriault.
Middleweight Bout: Marc-Andre Barriault (17-11 1 NC, 185 lbs.) vs. Kyle Daukaus (17-5 1 NC, 186 lbs.)
