Happy Halloween everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of UFC Fight Night: Moicano vs. Nolan, I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be your host. After a great UFC 333 event we’re back in the warehouse for this one. The main event is a fine enough Fight Night main event with veteran Renato Moicano trying to halt the rise of Tom Nolan. After that things get a tad more dicey, Jacobe Smith stepped in on short notice to fight Randy Brown, Luana Santos and Yana Santos are both ranked but women’s bantamweight is still a wasteland, Julian Erosa has announced he’s retiring after this fight, and Mickey Gall is ending a multiple year layoff. There’s just not a whole lot to really get excited for here. Hopefully the action delivers at least.

UFC Fight Night: Moicano vs. Nolan comes to the world from the Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. On commentary we’ve got Dan Hellie, Daniel Cormier, and Laura Sanko holding things down while Charly Arnolt provides reports and Joe Martinez handles announcements. We’re still in the smaller 25 foot cage, and by now we all know the rules Nevada operates under.

Tainara Lisboa has gone 2-2 in the UFC but is on a two fight losing streak and hasn’t won since 2023, she really needs to get back on the winning side of things and is hoping the drop to flyweight will facilitate that. Lucia Szabova is undefeated and a double champion from Oktagon MMA, she’s looking to keep that perfect record in tact and make a good first impression on the UFC audience. Szabova is the biggest favorite on the card at -650 to Lisboa’s +470.

Mic time for Durden for some reason because that fight kind of sucked. He puts over his team and sends love to his family. He says this fight meant a lot and promises 10k to charity. Next he talks us through some highlights, he mentions the Scottish Twister being very tight. He puts himself over to close.

Randy Brown has been with the UFC since January of 2016 but he’s just 1-3 in his last four and is on a two fight losing streak. Brown really needs to halt that skid. Jacobe Smith is undefeated including four UFC fights, he had a decorated wrestling career which has translated well into MMA thus far. Smith did take this on fairly short notice but a win would be the biggest of his career given Brown’s veteran status. Smith is a solid favorite at -265 while +215 on Brown has to tempt some bettors.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Jacobe Smith via unanimous decision (30-26 x3)

I’m not going to complain about a 10-8 in the third. Mic time for Smith, he talks about this being the result of hard work and puts over his team. He talks about there not being a plan and he just feels he can win anywhere. He says no one can beat him in wrestling and he’s turning out to be exactly who he thought he would be in MMA. Asked about the future he wants to fight in Dallas and will take anyone ranked for that card.

Renato Moicano has been with the UFC for a while now and has been successful across two weight classes, he is 37 though and just recently broke a two fight losing streak. Moicano is trying to defend his ranking and maybe make one last push towards the top of the division. Tom Nolan has gone 5-1 in the UFC but he’s on a five fight winning streak and most recently got a solid win over Fares Ziam, now if he can add Moicano to his resume as well it would mean pretty big things for the budding contender. Close one here, -120 on Moicano to an even +100 for Nolan.

Moicano back to the body triangle as he’s got the back. Nolan elbows the thigh a few times but nothing much is going on here. Moicano lands a few short punches. The crowd get vocal about nothing happening, I get the complaint but you can’t stand Moicano up from back control like this. Oh, color me surprised the ref does stand them up. OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Tom Nolan via TKO, punches and elbows, at 1:28 of Round 3

Mic time for Nolan, who took off his shorts for some reason, and he feels the fight went better than expected before putting over his team. He wasn’t too surprised at the standup in the second then talks us through some highlights and the finish. Asked about the future he says he knew he could go 5 rounds here and was focused on going long if possible. Again Cormier asks about who he wants next and he was focused on Moicano and gives glory to God. To close he’ll be willing to fight just about anyone.

Well on that note UFC Fight Night: Moicano vs. Nolan comes to a close. We’ll be unpacking this whole thing tomorrow on the 411 Ground and Pound MMA Podcast plus we’ll look ahead to UFC Fight Night 293, which lost the main event last week so that’s fun. It looks like the new main event next week is Waldo Cortes-Acosta vs. Johnny Walker, which might just be the worst. But we’ll preview the card anyway and I’ll be here to cover it. I hope to see you then, but fully understand if that card is not a priority for you. Until then thank you for reading, live or after the fact, stay safe out there and keep checking 411mania for all of your pop culture needs.
