The Ultimate Fighter 28: Heavy Hitters Episode TWO
INTRODUCTION: Season 28 of the Ultimate Fighter is here. This season will feature women’s featherweights and men’s heavyweights divisions, and the coaches are current UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker battling against title contender and former middleweight The Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum. LAST WEEK, the teams were chosen and Maurice Greene (5-2 MMA, 0-0 TUF) defeated Przemyslaw Mysiala (22-9-1 MMA, 0-0 TUF) via RD1 KO. This week, Pannie Kianzad (9-3 MMA, 0-0 TUF) faces Katharina Lehner (7-1 MMA, 0-0 TUF) in women’s featherweight action.

– Team Gastelum trains and Gastelum is focusing hard on cardio. The fighters agree that the shit you don’t want to train is usually the stuff you need the most. Justin Frazier looks like he’s going to die, and Gastelum questions if he trained at all before coming to the house. They are also worried about his weight. They worked him until he puked.

– We now see Katharina Lehner train for her fight. She Pannie Kianzad well and they almost fought a few times, but it just never happened. We see some fight footage of Katharina, she’s an aggressive striker and admits that she doesn’t mess with going to the ground.

– We get home video of Pannie and her pug & boyfriend. They met in training and it was a match made in heaven because she kicked his ass. Pannie came to the show from Iran via Sweden. She’s proud of her background and tries to show it in her skill set. Katharina is from Munich, Germany and trains out of Cologne. She has a little puppy. We see footage of Pannie fighting before the show, in the footage she comes across as a well-rounded fighter, but it’s only limited footage.

– Gastelum thinks she has a Mike Tyson quality to her… right before he has to drain her cauliflower ear. And now, Pannie breaks a tooth on her headgear. Fucks sake she hasn’t even fought yet. They take her to the dentist and they have to remove the tooth and give her a dental implant. Pannie freaks out about the molding process and bails from the office. The next day Pannie returns to the dentist and they remove the tooth.

– WEIGH-INS: Kianzad (145.75), Lehner (145)

– We get the usual pre-fight warm-ups.

Pannie Kianzad (9-3 MMA, 0-0 TUF) vs. Katharina Lehner (7-1 MMA, 0-0 TUF): ROUND ONE: Pannie has a slight experience advantage, but everything else is almost even. They come out center cage, both throwing, but Pannie is way more aggressive and landing solid strikes and leg kicks. Katharina finally clinches and they work to the cage. Katharina doesn’t do much with the dominant position, as Pannie quickly turns her and lands knee strikes and rights. They separate and trade, Pannie again is landing cleaner strikes and with a higher volume. Katharina clinches, they work to the cage but she again doesn’t do much and they separate. Pannie starts mixing in leg kicks as she controls the standup game with ease. Pannie keeps the volume up and continues to land clean strikes, moving in and out, and then scoring a late takedown to secure the round. SORECARD: Pannie Kianzad 10-9

ROUND TWO: Round two begins with Pannie connecting with strikes and getting a takedown. She controls from half guard, working Katharina to the cage where Katharina walk walks and gets to her feet. Pannie keeps the pressure on, not doing much, but also not allowing Katharina to do anything of note. Katharina gets a takedown, but Pannie immediately sweeps and takes top control, working into half guard again. She’s landing some strikes, nothing very damaging, but easily controlling. Pannie takes her back and then gets mount in the final 20-seconds as Katharina sweeps out and the round ends. SORECARD: Pannie Kianzad 10-9, 20-18 overall OFFICIAL DECISION: Pannie Kianzad via unanimous decision

– It was a bland fight that Pannie dominated with ease.

– Team Gastelum is out to a 2-0 lead.
