Alex Nicholson Planning To Make Middleweight Title Run

July 15, 2016 | Posted by Joseph Lee

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Alex Nicholson (7-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) spoke about his win against Devin Clark (6-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 91 and said he’s planning to make a run at the UFC middleweight title. Here are highlights:

On winning against Clark: “My goal was to win this fight no matter what. My last fight, my jaw was broken. There’s not much worse that can happen. My last MMA fight before that, my jaw was broken. I’m literally the type of dude, I’ll have to be dead in there. He hit me with a good shot and it just woke me up. I feel like I didn’t start fighting till the last 10 seconds, and I put him out.”

On giving Clark four tickets so his friends could see him lose: “I gave him tickets so four more people in his home town could watch me do what I did to him. What happened to him? I said, ‘Here – this is four more tickets so four more people can come watch you get this work.’ I’m not a jerk. Even after I did what I just told you guys about, I went back and said, ‘Seriously – have four more of your friends come watch,’ and he did take them.”

On wanting a title: “Anybody that makes it here, I congratulate you. I’m just better than you. I’m sorry. I’m here to win and take over and I will not be beaten from here on out. I will train harder than I ever have. I’ll keep getting better, and I’ll have gold around my waist one day.”
