Speaking to reporters at the post-fight press conference for yesterday’s UFC Fight Night 127 event (via MMAjunkie), UFC heavyweight fighter Alexander Volkov discussed his knockout victory over former UFC champion Fabricio Werdum. Below are some highlights from the presser.

Volkov on wanting to fight for the title in the fall in Russia: “I’ll be happy if it happens in September or maybe in autumn in Russia – for the first event in Russia. If the UFC gives me this, I’ll be really happy.”

Volkov on who he expects to face between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic: “I’ll be waiting for the stronger guy. I’m just waiting for one of them. It doesn’t matter, because for me, it’s OK for me to win using my striking. I work with wrestling and jiu-jitsu a lot, but I prefer to use my striking.”

Volkov on the challenge of fighting Werdum: “It was a really hard fight for me on all sides, from he’s a really good on the technical side to there was a lot of pressure on me with the fight, so I didn’t feel very comfortable before the fight.”

Alexander Volkov on how the fight went: “We were playing with each other and getting under each others’ skin. In the end, the only thing I’m unhappy about is I had to finish him and hit him a couple of times while he was unconscious. I hope he didn’t receive too much damage, and I hope we’re still friends after this.”
