Ben Rothwell has accepted a two-year suspension from the US Anti-Doping Agency over a failed drug test. The agency announced on Friday (via MMAjunkie) that Rothwell tested positive for an anabolic androgenic steroid of exogenous origin and will be suspended for two years as a result. The relevant tests were conducted on February 6, 2017 and February 15, 2017.

The suspension is retroactive to February 6th and is the standard punishment for non-specified substances. Rothwell’s fight with Fabricio Werdum at UFC 211 was cancelled as a result of the failed drug tests. Rothwell denied that he had knowingly taken performance enhancers and said he’d been prescribed testosterone by his physician. However, despite submitting medical records to back his treatment, USADA’s therapeutic use exemption (TUE) committee determined that he did not meet the criteria for a TUE.
