Dustin Ortiz spoke with MMAjunkie ahead of his fight with Joseph Benavidez at UFC on ESPN+ 1 this weekend. Highlights are below:

On making weight: “It’s all about the opportunity and being ready for him, so I’ll be there at 125 on the dot. Hey, I’ll fight T.J. I’ll fight Henry. It doesn’t matter. That’s the kind of fighter people want to see, and that’s the kind of fighter I am. I haven’t turned down any fights in the UFC. Maybe I asked for more time. I took short-notice fights. So I’ve got what, the third most UFC fights in flyweight history? I wasn’t the first guy here, but I’m still here. So that says something.”

On rumors that the flyweight division may be shut down: “Every fight is a save-the-division fight. Every fight is the most important fight of your career when you get to the UFC. I treat them all the same. I’m showing up very prepared. I’m looking to knock out Joe in the first round, just like I did in my last couple of fights.”
