Frankie Edgar Would Wait on Bantamweight Move to Fight Conor McGregor
If Conor McGregor wants to face off with Frankie Edgar, Edgar says he’ll wait on moving down weight. Edgar spoke with TMZ for a new interview and discussed McGregor, who said in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani that he would be willing to hold off on his bantamweight move if he has to in order to get that fight.
“Yeah, I mean, it gave me hope that maybe I could get a fight with him,” Edgar said about the interview. “I’ve been trying to fight this guy for a really long time. I know he’s mentioned my name before, so who knows if it’s just him throwing a lot of s**t on the wall and see if something sticks.”
He added, “But you know, I’m game and he knows I’m game. I know I’m supposed to go down to bantamweight, but I would delay that for the McGregor fight.”
McGregor has said he’s looking to return to the Octagon before the start of 2020. There’s no word on whether an Edgar/McGregor fight is being discussed by the UFC yet.
