Ian McCall Given Retroactive Therapeutic Use Exemption For UFC 208

June 9, 2017 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Ian McCall has been granted a retroactive therapeutic use exemption for UFC 208. The USADA announced that McCall was given the TUE retroactive to the day of the fight due to an IV administered after he had to withdraw at the last second due to illness.

While the IV did not contain a banned substance, it surpassed the 50mL per six-hour period rule which the USADA gave the exemption for. The statement reads, “After a thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding the potential violation, which included the retroactive TUE application process, USADA determined that the athlete had a diagnosed acute medical condition for which the use of an intravenous infusion is consistent with the standard of care. Because McCall’s TUE application was granted retroactively, his use of a prohibited method will not result in an anti-doping policy violation.”
