Joey Davis Heading Back to School After Bellator 160 Fight

Joey Davis spoke with MMAjunkie about his pro debut at Bellator 160 against Keith Cutrone. Some highlights are below:

On going pro: “I didn’t think I would sign this fast, but I had a great coaching staff that said, (my) skills are there. Before I made the choice, I took four or five months.”

On trying to avoid the pitfalls other wrestlers find when they get into MMA: “I see a lot of wrestlers, and when they get tired, they put their head down and they get guillotined. My main goal, my main concern, is to do what my coach tells me.”

On his amateur MMA experience: “I’ve been watching this sport since I could walk. I actually started fighting when I was 12. I’m 4-0 as an amateur. … My goals are high, and I got family members whose goals are high.”

On still being in school at Notre Dame: “I go to school August 28th. A lot of people don’t know that I still have to go back to school for a whole year, so I have a lot of time to work on my hands … and just be a regular student. … But obviously I’m going be working on my MMA.”
