Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs. Kavanagh, I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be your host. The UFC is back in Mexico City for the first time in about a year, and at this point it’s just tradition that Brandon Moreno be in the main event. His opponent stepped in on somewhat short notice, but Lone’er Kavanagh has shown a lot of overall promise for the flyweight division. We’ve also got a lot of action oriented fighters here, David Martinez had a heck of a 2025 and now he’s taking former title challenger Marlon Vera. Edgar Chairez is always watchable, as is Kevin Borjas. On the prelims Douglas Silva de Andrade is still kicking around, top 10 bantamweights Ailin Perez and Macy Chiasson will square up as well. It might not be a star studded card but there’s cause for some optimism about the overall entertainment value being presented here. So with that out of the way let’s get to the action.

UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs. Kavanagh comes to the world from Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico. We’ve got the trio of Brendan Fitzgerald, Michael Bisping, and Laura Sanko on commentary while Joe Martinez handles announcing and Charly Arnolt does the roving reporter bit. We are under the newer rules here, so you hands don’t count for determining if a fighter is downed and of course 12-6 elbows are legal. There’s also the bigger 30 foot cage, and perhaps most importantly the altitude is quite high. It varies within the city limits between 7,350 and 12,890 feet depending on where you are specifically but either way that’s quite a ways up to be and cardio could be at a premium tonight.

Boy that place looks empty as the broadcast begins.

Wes Schultz brings a two fight winning streak into his UFC debut and now he’s looking to make the most of his only chance at a first impression. Damian Pinas is on a four fight winning streak coming into his UFC debut, actually his only loss was a DQ for landing an illegal kick, but he’s also looking to make a positive first impression on the UFC audience. The odds like Pinas at -250 to Schultz’s +205 comeback.

Middleweight Bout: Damian Pinas (8-1, 186 lbs.) vs. Wesley Schultz (8-2, 186 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Schultz is half an inch taller while Pinas has two and a half inches of reach advantage. Some forward motion from Pinas, he does a bit of stance switching but is mostly orthodox. Calf kick from Pinas. Another calf kick from Pinas then he sprawls away from a takedown. Schultz with a partially landed head kick. One two from Pinas slumps Schultz, but Schultz wrestles back up into a clinch. Pinas avoids a level change but Schultz gets a body lock and tries a lateral drop only to wind up on bottom. Some elbows from Pinas, he’s in side control now. Schultz wrestles up on a single leg and they scramble around then just reset on the feet. Pinas with a glancing uppercut that bothers Schultz. Schultz is out of ideas at this point and Pinas floors him with another one two which prompts the stoppage.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Damian Pinas via TKO, punches, at 2:30 of Round 1

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Pinas for his work. Mic time for Pinas and the translator, he plays a bit with the crowd which has filled in a bit then says he knows if he lands cleanly on anyone they’re going down. He says he’s not just here to fight, he’s here to become a champion and he’s ready to work to get there.

Check the finish HERE, they usually allow embedding later in the evening so hopefully that becomes viable sooner rather than later.

Erick Silva has gone 0-2 in the UFC and was last seen losing via a leg injury a little over 2 years ago, now he’s back in action and searching for that all important first UFC win. Francis Marshall has gone 2-3 in the UFC, two of those losses have been split decisions including his fight almost a year ago against Mairon Santos. Marshall is trying to avoid another losing streak and get his UFC record back to the .500 mark. Marshall is a big favorite at -850 to a +575 payout on Silva.

Featherweight Bout: Francis Marshall (8-3, 145 lbs.) vs. Erik Silva (9-3, 146 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: These two are the same height while Marshall has an inch of reach advantage and is 12 years younger. Silva with a bit of a wheel kick after the glove touch. Not too long after that we get an eye poke to Silva so we’ve got a time out, only about 20 seconds then we’re back to fighting. Marshall with a bit of a left hook. Silva with a calf kick. Quick double leg from Marshall, they hit the fence though and Silva wall walks then thinks about a standing guillotine only for Marshall to take him down into side control on the safe side. Bit of an arm triangle attack from Marshall, he winds up in half guard though and that slows things. Marshall really goes for the choke but loses the arm control. Silva gives up the back, Marshall grabs the choke and after a minor adjustment he’s able to force the choke.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Francis Marshall via Submission, rear naked choke, at 2:29 of Round 1

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Marshall for his work. Mic time for Marshall and the translator for the crowd, he thanks his team for helping him get the win. He talks us through the finish to close.

Finish is HERE.

Ernesta Kareckaite has gone 1-1 in the UFC but she is coming off of a win a little over a year ago, now she’s looking for her first UFC winning streak. Regina Tarin took this fight during fight week, hence the catchweight, when Sofia Montenegro fell out. That said Tarin is undefeated and will be looking for her first UFC win. Despite the fight coming together on short notice the odds are pretty close, -160 on Kareckaite to a +135 comeback for Tarin.

Stiff left from Kareckaite. Tarin lands a body kick which Kareckaite returns. Combination from Tarin, then they just trade in the pocket for a bit in a nice exchange. They tie up then hit the fence. Knee from Kareckaite then they separate. Front kick from tarin then Kareckaite cracks her with a left hook. They both land in close, neither woman is afraid to eat the blows at this point. SCORECARD: 10-9 Kareckaite, 29-28 Kareckaite overall but could go either way

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Regina Tarina via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27 x2)

Not sure I agree with 30-27 there but can’t complain about her winning overall. Mic time for Tarin and the translator, she thanks her team and plays with the crowd then says she’s the kind of fighter who’s here to stay. To close she puts over the crowd and talks about the emotion of the moment.

Douglas Silva de Andrade has been with the UFC for just over 12 years, his debut being in February of 2014, and he’s gone 3-3 in his last few fights. Silva de Andrade is coming off of a loss and he’s trying to avoid his first ever losing streak, a heck of an achievement for a guy 36 fights dating back to 2007. Javier Reyes brings a two fight winning streak into his UFC debut, he’s not being given a soft introduction to the UFC ranks a win over a veteran like Silva de Andrade would be a heck of a way to make a first impression. The odds are with Reyes at -240 to a +195 comeback on Silva de Andrade.

Featherweight Bout: Douglas Silva de Andrade (29-6 1 NC, 146 lbs.) vs. Javier Reyes (22-5, 145 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: These two are the same height while Reyes has four and a half inches of reach advantage, he’s also 8 years younger. Reyes declines a touch of gloves on the start. I’m calling BS on the height measurements by the way, Reyes looks significantly taller. Right hand from Reyes. Hard right from Silva de Andrade rocks Reyes but he recovers fairly quickly. Silva de Andrade avoids a bad takedown attempt. Left hook from Silva de Andrade. Reyes circles away and then ducks under a right hand. Bit of a body kick from Reyes. Reyes with some more punches, Silva de Andrade tries to roll for a leg but gets smothered into leg drag. Eventually Silva de Andrade gets to turtle, Reyes with punches from the ride now. Silva de Andrade tries to turn into Reyes but Reyes out scrambles him and stays on top though now Silva de Andrade gets full guard. Some punches from top position by Reyes then he passes to side control. Back mount now for Reyes and he flattens out Silva de Andrade with the hooks then throws punches and the ref steps in with just a couple seconds left in the round.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Javier Reyes via TKO, punches, at 4:59 of Round 1

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Reyes for his work. Mic time for Reyes, he says this is for his country of Colombia then puts over his team for all of their work. Asked about the future he says this is just a first step and he wants to keep fighting up in the ranks.

Silva de Andrade wasn’t thrilled with the stoppage but it looked fair to me, judge for yourself.

Christian Quinonez has gone 1-2 in the UFC and is on a two fight losing streak, he’s also been out of action for a little over 2 years after getting choked out by Raoni Barcelos. Quinonez is trying to halt that skid with a win in his native Mexico. Kris Moutinho has gone 0-3 in the UFC across two stints with the promotion, he really needs to find that first UFC win here or risk getting the boot a second time. Quinonez is a pretty sizeable favorite at -675 to Moutinho’s +490.

Bantamweight Bout: Kris Moutinho (14-7, 136 lbs.) vs. Cristian Quinonez (18-5, 136 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Quinonez is an inch taller with two inches of reach advantage. Southpaw for Moutinho to start. Quinonez with a right hand into a clinch but he can’t do much with the clinch before they break. Circling from Moutinho, Quinonez lands a right to the body. Moutinho lands a left hand. Some long range punches from Quinonez as they move around. Moutinho with a left hand but he loses position and Quinonez gets behind him and hits a slamming mat return. Moutinho fights up but Quinonez hits him then rides things back to the mat against the fence. Quinonez moves to the ride, Moutinho looks for a switch but winds up giving up the back. They wind up fighting upright and then separating, Quinonez never really got the second hook it so Moutinho did scramble free. Bit of a right from Quinonez. Moutinho whines about an eye poke, both men have been reaching a lot with open fingers. Not much time needed for Moutinho then we’re back to fighting. Right hand from Quinonez. Elbow from Quinonez in close and Moutinho is cut on the bridge of the nose. A lot of forward motion from Moutinho. Jabs from Quinonez land. A few front kicks from Quinonez close the round.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Quinonez

ROUND TWO: Moutinho opens with a one two then tries a takedown but Quinonez defends that. Jabs from Quinonez while he’s circling. Moutinho with a left to the body but Quinonez hits a double leg. They’re against the fence and Moutinho is trying to wall walk but Quinonez slips to the back as they stand. Little trip from Quinonez and he’s in the ride position again. Moutinho stands but gets taken back down and Quinonez moves to side control. Armbar attack from Quinonez, Moutinho rolls to his knees though and blocks that while Quinonez moves to the ride. They stand again and Quinonez eventually drags things to the mat again. Quinonez gets the back and goes for the choke, Moutinho defends that but Quinonez gets a body triangle. Moutinho defends a choke attack, Quinonez keeps trying to adjust the choke but he’s struggling to really get under the chin or find enough leverage to go across the jaw properly. Quinonez looks for mount, winds up moving to north-south. Moutinho wrestles up on a single leg but gets stuck on his knees, they fight up and reset on the feet though. Jab from Quinonez. Moutinho avoids a right hand, but not a second one and that closes the round.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Quinonez, 20-18 Quinonez overall

ROUND THREE: Moutinho gets back to moving forward, he knows he needs a finish. Quinonez jabs and circles. Bit of a right from Quinonez. Brief clinch then Quinonez jabs his way out of it, it looks like he’s content to just ice the round as much as possible. Bit of a right from Quinonez then he hits a single leg, Moutinho looks to wrestle from his knees but Quinonez switches to a double leg and gets him down into side control. Quinonez moves to half guard for control and drops a few short blows. Moutinho hip escapes to full guard. Quinonez passes the guard and Moutinho grabs at a leg though he’s not really finding much there. From 50/50 guard Moutinho tries for a heel hook but there’s a lot going wrong for him and Quinonez spins to get on top in half guard again. Not much going on here, Quinonez winds up on top in leg drag then they wrestle up and reset with 20 seconds left. Moutinho walks forward but wont find anything as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Moutinho but a pretty bad round overall, 29-28 Quinonez overall

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Christian Quinonez via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

I don’t agree with Quinonez getting the third, I don’t think he did almost anything effectively offensive. Mic time for Quinonez, he likes to fight and puts over the crowd. He puts over Moutinho as tough and strong, so he fought smart to neutralize him.

Macy Chiasson has gone 8-5 in the UFC overall but most recently is on a two fight losing streak, because the division is bad she’s still ranked in the top 10 but another loss here might drop her from that spot. Ailin Perez has gone 5-1 in the UFC and is on a five fight winning streak, if she can get another win here the finding herself around the title picture isn’t out of the question at all. Fairly close one here, at least based on the prior fights, -185 on Perez while +155 for Chiasson might tempt some bettors out there.

Women’s Bantamweight Bout: #8 Macy Chiasson (10-5, 135 lbs.) vs. #7 Ailin Perez (12-2, 136 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Chiasson has a significant six inches of height and reach over Perez. Both women with stance switching early as they circle, looks like Chiasson wants to fight open stances. Perez avoids a left hand and hits a takedown. Chiasson inverts for a knee bar, Perez moves to 50/50 guard and works to defend. Perez defends the leg attack but Chiasson comes up on top then moves to the back. Both hooks in for Chiasson then she goes to a body triangle. Elbows from Chiasson, Perez bases up on a knee then stands and looks to shake Chiasson off but Chiasson breaks the base and keeps the back. Some punches land for Chiasson but nothing too serious. Perez breaks the body triangle and turns into Chiasson to get on top. Chiasson wall walks very quickly into a clinch and Perez lands a knee then takes her back down into half guard. Elbows and punches from Perez as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Chiasson

ROUND TWO: Chiasson misses a body kick to start the round. Right hand from Perez in close. Solid right hand from Perez. Chiasson avoids a spinning back fist. They clinch up and trade knees, then Perez with a sort of harai goshi into half guard. Perez has a half nelson going and elbows the body while Chiasson is holding on and looking to wrestle up. The ref just stands them up, that was ridiculously fast by the ref, what the heck. They tie up again and Perez lands a knee to the body. Some positional jockeying on the fence as they trade body blows. Things are stalling out in the clinch, this dumbass ref says nothing about that though. Eventually Chiasson fails a sacrifice throw and Perez gets on top in butterfly guard. Fairly quick get up from Chiasson, Perez is on the back though and trips her back down into the ride. Perez avoids Chiasson trying to invert and gets a hook in. A few punches land for Perez to close the round.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Perez, 19-19 overall

ROUND THREE: Chiasson slips on a kick, Perez gets her back as she stands and pushes things to the fence. Perez looks for trips and then avoids a poor takedown from Chiasson to get on top. Almost full mount for Perez but Chiasson shrimps to half guard. A few body blows from Perez then an elbow to the head. Chiasson is holding on and hoping the ref stands them up, but apparently he’s being more accurate with his intervention this round. Perez moves to the back and lands punches while trying to open up the choke. Chiasson gets to turtle and breaks one of the hooks, then she stands with Perez on her back. Perez with knees to the body and head as Chiasson gets chest to chest. A few more knees go back and forth as they pummel and jockey for position. They break and Chiasson misses a kick then Perez pushes into a clinch which will ice the final seconds of the round.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Perez, 29-28 Perez overall

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Ailin Perez via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

Mic time for Perez, she plays with the crowd a bit then calls out Tracy Cortez. With six wins in a row I’d think she’d be aiming at the title instead fighting down in the ranks at Cortez.

Jose Medina has gone 0-3 in the UFC and is on an overall four fight losing streak, he could well be in a win or go home situation here. Ryan Gandra brings a seven fight winning streak into his UFC debut, and now he’s looking to make the most of his only change to make a good first impression on the audience. The odds are heavily with Gandra at -750 to Medina’s +525.

Middleweight Bout: Ryan Gandra (8-1, 185 lbs.) vs. Jose Daniel Medina (11-6, 186 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Gandra is an inch taller but the reach is identical. They touch gloves, Gandra fighting southpaw. Both men try power hand punches that don’t quite land. Some front kicks from Gandra as he switches stance while moving forward. Knee from Gandra and he looks to flurry against the fence. Eventually Gandra lands enough of a flurry to drop Medina and get the stoppage, but man Medina is not happy with that stoppage.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Ryan Gandra via TKO, punches, at :41 of Round 1

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Gandra for his work. Mic time for Gandra and the translator, they’ve brought in the guy who does both Spanish and Portuguese for this one, and Gandra says he loves finishes and got the first round one here then says he’s a problem for the division. Asked about the future he reiterates that he’s a problem then puts over a sponsor.

Santiago Luna is undefeated including a successful UFC debut last year, he’s looking to remain perfect and start solidifying himself as a prospect of note. Angel Pacheco is on a two fight losing streak including dropping his UFC debut almost 2 years ago, now he’s back in action and looking for that all important first UFC win. Luna is among the biggest favorites on the card at -800 to Pacheco’s +550.

Middleweight Bout: Santiago Luna (7-0, 136 lbs.) vs. Angel Pacheco (7-3, 135 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Luna is an inch taller with four inches of reach advantage, he’s also 13 years younger. Luna looks to feint forward early. Pacheco with a bit of a left hook. Luna with knees to the body in close, he’s starting to open up a bit now. Bit of a calf kick from Pacheco. Another front kick from Luna then he hits a double leg, Pacheco bounces up but takes punches along the way into a clinch. They break without much incident. Pacheco shows the jab a bit now, he’s had some decent combination work thus far just nothing hugely substantive. Body shot from Pacheco in close. Luna with a knee in close then a left hook. Body kick from Luna then a few punches, those body blows are adding up on Pacheco. Right hand from Pacheco. Luna with a double leg into full guard. They end the round trading, and Luna tries a leaping knee that partially lands to conclude things.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Luna, 30-27 Luna overall

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Santiago Luna via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

Decent little fight there. Mic time for Luna, he plays with the crowd then speaks English as well as Spanish and says this is the beginning of something great and while he didn’t get a finish Pacheco was tough so he had to push through that. Asked about the future he says he’s working hard every day and wants to fight Alexandre Topuria. Not an unreasonable call out.

Imanol Rodriguez is undefeated as a professional coming into his UFC debut, a few people might have seen him on TUF 33 though. Rodriguez is looking to maximize his first outing by also getting his first UFC win. Kevin Borjas has gone just 1-3 in the UFC and most recently lost to Sumudaerji, he’s pretty badly got to get back on the winning side of things here as being a fairly exciting fighter will only keep you around for so long if wins don’t also come your way. The odds are with Rodriguez at -425 while +330 on Borjas might tempt a few bettors out there given the volatility of young flyweights in general.

Flyweight Bout: Kevin Borjas (10-4, 126 lbs.) vs. Imanol Rodriguez (6-0, 125 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Borjas is an inch taller with three and a half inches of reach advantage. They touch gloves to get going. Calf kick from Rodriguez. Both men start working the lead hand. Knees from Borjas in a clinch, Rodriguez hangs on though and hits a takedown into full guard. Rodriguez looks to pass and gets to half guard. A few body to head punches from Rodriguez. Things are stalling a bit, it’s the same ref from the Perez and Chiasson fight but apparently he got chewed out by the other refs between fights. Bit of an elbow from Rodriguez. Rodriguez is able to posture up and lands an elbow. Rodriguez looks for more elbows with mixed results. The round will end with Rodriguez moving to mount then Borjas scrambling up.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Borjas

ROUND TWO: Rodriguez opens with a calf kick then misses a one two. Borjas with a calf kick of his own. Short left from Borjas. Both men try to get the lead hand working again, then Borjas lands a front kick. Rodriguez lands a calf kick then walks into a left hand. Rodriguez misses a few hooks. Right to the body from Rodriguez. We get a time out as Rodriguez poked Borjas in the eye. Replay confirms some finger contact but not much and Borjas recovers quickly. Rodriguez punches in close after a failed takedown. Right hand from Borjas. Rodriguez lands a left hand, he’s got Borjas on the fence but slips throwing a knee. Borjas lands a right hand. Glancing left hand from Rodriguez, then a follow up glancing right that gets Borjas to slump against the fence and that’ll prompt the stoppage.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Imanol Rodriguez via TKO, punches, at 4:21 of Round 2

Mic time for Rodriguez, he talks about how hard he’s worked to be here. Asked about getting dropped in the first round he says it feels great to win in front of his people in Mexico. He talks us through the finish and puts over Borjas, then to close he wants to fight in Miami. That’s when Joshua Van is defending the title, so that seems way unlikely.

Edgar Chairez has gone 2-2 with 1 No Contest in the UFC, he was last seen getting a win 11 months ago and now has the chance to get not only his first UFC winning streak but also to finally have a UFC record over the .500 mark. Chairez closed at -310 while Bunes’ comeback sits at +250.

Close fight, 29-28 either way was perfectly acceptable as a scorecard. Mic time for Chairez, he admits to losing the first round and that the fight was tough but he still feels he can be champion one day. He says a few things the translator says he can’t say on air, but Bunes was tough and he did this for his daughter who’s in the crowd.

Daniel Zellhuber has gone 3-3 in the UFC and is on a two fight losing streak, he really needs to get back on the winning side of things here if he wants to start making good on the promise he showed a couple of years back. King Green has had 52 fights and debuted professionally in 2008, most recently he broke a two fight losing streak and now looks for his first winning streak since 2023. Zellhuber is the favorite at -380 while +300 for Green might be tempting given how many times he’s cashed as a dog.

Man King Green just will not go quietly into the night. Mic time for Green after that win, he plays a bit with the crowd then thanks God first. He talks us through the finish and wishes everyone a happy Black History month and fumbles his words a bit, I mean in fairness he did get punched in the head a bit. Asked about the future he wants Nate Diaz to retire in the UFC and puts over his victory party.

The finish is right HERE, not sure why that one wouldn’t embed but we’re just doing the best we can here.

Marlon Vera has had a pretty long UFC career dating back to November of 2014, during that time he’s gone 15-10 but most recently is on a three fight losing streak. Vera really needs to get back on the winning side of things here because a fourth loss would pretty handily signal that his career is about to start winding down. David Martinez is on a nine fight winning streak including two wins in the UFC, the most recent one coming over veteran Rob Font. Martinez is looking to accelerate his move through the ranks by adding another veteran to his resume then set his sights on the very top of the weight class. Martinez faded badly but survived the final round. Mic time for Martinez, he says Vera is tough and hits hard but he’s here to represent Mexico. He puts over the crowd then when asked about the future just says he’ll fight whoever the UFC give him.

Brandon Moreno is a former two time flyweight champion but he’s been a bit up and down lately, he dropped a couple of split decisions then rebounded with wins over Amir Albazi and Steve Erceg but then his last time out he didn’t have a whole lot to offer Tatsuro Taira before Taira stopped him with strikes in the second round. If Moreno wants to ever fight for the belt again he really needs to get back on the winning side of things here as a loss would pretty clearly put him outside the title picture. Lone’er Kavanagh took this fight on fairly short notice when Asu Almabayev fell out of this fight and most recently he was stopped by Charles Johnson. Despite that setback Kavanagh is looking for the biggest win of his career if he can get by the former champion Moreno. Fairly close for a main event that came together on short notice, -205 for Moreno to +170 on Kavanagh.

Yeah that’s right, he’s gotta be careful giving away rounds via clinch time though because that almost wet bad for him. Mic time for Kavangh and he puts over Mexico then thanks his parents. He puts over the experience of the fight and his team. Asked about the future he says anyone can get it.
