Roy Nelson Apologizes For Getting Physical With John McCarthy at Fight Night 95

Roy Nelson apologized for kick-pushing referee John McCarthy at UFC Fight Night 95. MMAjunkie reports that Nelson apologized during the official weigh-in event for TUF 24 Finale for the incident, which followed his knockout win over Antonio Silva at the September event.

“First I would like to apologize to the fans, who make our sport,” he said. “(And) the Brazilian commission, John McCarthy, and the rest of the world, my team and especially my family, for my actions in my last fight. My actions were out of character. I have nothing against anyone, including John McCarthy. I recognize what I did was a mistake was wrong. I can’t apologize enough to John McCarthy, the commission and MMA fans around the world. I can’t wait to get back into the octagon to entertain the fans.”

Nelson was suspended for nine months and fined about $23,400 for the incident. That will likely be cut down, as Brazil Superior Justice Court of MMA president Marcelo Sedlmayer Jorge ruled that he could reduce the suspension to six months and cut the fine almost in half if the UFC authorized him to make a formal apology by the end of the year, “and preferably in the presence of the offended referee (John McCarthy).” McCarthy was not present.
