Scott Coker Says Bellator May Do More Tournaments in 2019
Bellator President Scott Coker spoke with MMAjunkie after Bellator 199 about the possibility of doing more tournaments next year following the World Heavyweight Grand Prix.
“I want to get through the heavyweight tournament first, but I think it’s a great format for us,” Coker said. “I believe there is a place for tournaments in MMA, and I think this grand prix tournament proves that it’s something worth doing. For us, it’s great because it crowns our new heavyweight champion. But don’t be surprised if you see another tournament or so next year.”
The heavyweight grand prix is set to crown a new Bellator heavyweight champion. The title is currently vacant, having been stripped from Vitaly Minakov in 2016 after he failed to make title defenses.
