The UFC on ESPN+ 27: Benavidez vs. Figueiredo main event has gone through some changes. The fight was scheduled to crown a new UFC flyweight champion in a bout for the vacant title. However, Deiveson Figueiredo failed to make weight at Friday’s weigh in. He came in heavy at 127.5 pounds.

As a result of his coming in over the weight limit, his fight with Joseph Benavidez (124.5 pounds) will move forward as planned. However, Figueiredo now has to forfeit 30 percent of his purse to Benavidez, and he is no longer eligible to win the vacant title on Saturday. Benavidez is still eligible to win the title if he wins the fight since he made weight.

Grant Dawson also missed weight for his scheduled featherweight bout against Darrick Minner. Dawson also has to forfeit 30 percent of his purse to his opponent, and the fight will move forward as scheduled.

The situation with Figueiredo means that if he wins Saturday’s fight the UFC flyweight title will remain vacant. In 2018, it looked like the UFC was going to potentially scrap the division. Instead, former champion Henry Cejudo ended up defending the title against then bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw in January 2019. He later won the bantamweight title in June 2019 after beating Marlon Moraes for the vacant title at UFC 238.

Cejudo was later stripped of the flyweight title before this fight was signed. If the title remains vacant after Saturday, it might give the UFC the excuse that it needs to fold up the entire division, which has been in question before.

UFC on ESPN+ 27 will be held on Saturday (Feb. 29) at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. Here are the full weigh-in results:
