411’s Heat Report 05.28.06

May 28, 2006 | Posted by Dan Zurbruegg

Hey everyone. As you can see, Scott Slimmer was not available to write one of his great Heat recaps, so I’m filling in this week. For those who do not know, I’m a new writer here on 411 and have been writing Velocity recaps for a month or so.

Anyways, I doubt I can do as good of a job as Slimmer, but I shall try my best.

The Preview

Segment 1: Haas vs. Conway
Tag Line: Watch Charlie Haas go one on one with Rob Conway.
Running Time: 8:44
Bottom Line: Solid match, perhaps as solid as you will see on Heat. It wasn’t given great time, but it was solid and neither man had much on an advantage throughout the match. The two seem to have some good chemistry together.

Segment 2: Victoria in Action
Tag Line: Watch Victoria battle Las Vegas native Melissa Anderson.
Running Time: 5:21
Bottom Line: Basically what you’d expect – a total squash.

Segment 3: Eugene in Action
Tag Line: Eugene is in singles action this week on HEAT.
Running Time: 5:03
Bottom Line: Just your typical Eugene squash match.

Segment 4: Carlito vs. Cade
Tag Line: Watch Carlito take on Lance Cade in HEAT’s Main Event.
Running Time: 10:14
Bottom Line: Fun little match, but it wasn’t given enough time. The two seem to work well together in the ring.

The Review

Segment 1: Haas vs. Conway
(Charlie Haas vs. Rob Conway)

Todd Grisham, once again doing commentary alone due to Coach’s absence, welcomes us to Heat. I came THAT close to saying Velocity. “Just look at me. Oh, just look at me. Ain’t I sight to see? The whole damn world wants to look like me.” Rob Conway makes his way to the ring, as the ring announcer, who I have no idea is, introduces him. If anyone knows who the guy is, I’d really appreciate it if you’d tell me. The ring announcer states that Conway is “the model of excellence”, at which point I honestly feel more sad than humored. Conway deserves better than being the opener for Heat week in and week out. The guy’s got talent. “Pay The Price” by Eric and the Hostiles hits, and Charlie Haas enters to a pretty nice pop. I personally like the music, as it fits Haas’ character.

The two lockup to start, and Haas follows up with a quick rollup. They lockup again and make there way into the turnbuckle, where they are broken up. Conway gives Haas a shove, but Haas gives him one back that knocks Conway to the mat. Conway quickly gets up and applies a headlock, gets sent into the ropes, and hits a shoulder block on Haas. Haas fights back by kicking Conway away, and follows up with an arm drag. Haas locks in an arm bar, but Conway fights out of it with an elbow to the head. Rob delivers a few punches and sends Haas into the ropes. Charlie reverses a hip toss into one of his own, and then hits an arm drag and a dropkick that sends Conway to the outside. Haas follows him out there and chases him around the ring. Conway slides back in, flies off the ropes, and ducks a clothesline. Haas goes for a dropkick, but Rob stops himself in the ropes. Conway nails a kick in the back and picks Haas up. Charlie counters with a knee to the midsection, which sends Rob into the corner. Haas charges, but Conway reverses with an elbow and a right hand. Conway picks up Haas and hits a back drop onto the ropes. Rob follows up with another kick to the back, which is good for a two count.

Conway nails another kick to the back and whips Haas into the corner. Rob locks in a sleeper hold, but Charlie quickly fights out of it. Conway gets sent into the ropes, ducks a clothesline, and hits a swinging neckbreaker for two. Yet another kick to the back leads to a choke. Conway locks on a sleeper hold, and the two trade punches. Haas hits an uppercut to gain an advantage, the two trade punches once again, and Charlie hits a boot to the face. Haas charges, and hits a clothesline and then an elbow. Conway gets sent into the ropes and Haas hits a back body drop. Haas taunts to the crowd and then delivers a few kicks to the back of his own, to the delight of the crowd. Haas picks up Conway and hits an Inverted DDT for the pin at 5:50.

Haas was extremely over from the beginning to end. I’m not sure why he’s been on Heat for two weeks in a row, as he can be a major factor in the mid card. Maybe the creative team isn’t completely sure of what they want to do with him right now, or maybe they just don’t want to push him too fast. Whatever the case, they need to get him in the tag division in some way, shape, or form. The same should be said for Conway. The guy’s got a lot of talent and is solid in tag matches. They should pair him up with Johnny Nitro, as their gimmicks would mesh together quite well.

We finish up as an advertisement for WWEShop.com is shown.

Match Result: Charlie Haas defeats Rob Conway with an Inverted DDT.
Match Length: 5:50
Best Spot: Haas’ Inverted DDT

Segment 2: Victoria in Action
(Victoria vs. Melissa Anderson)

“I ain’t the lady to mess with, WHOOOO!” Victoria’s music hits, and makes her way out to the ring. Already in the ring is Las Vegas native Melissa Anderson. She’s probably from about 15 other cities as well. As the match starts, Todd Grisham takes the time during this squash match to tell us about ECW and the two matches already announced.

They lockup to start, but Victoria shoves Melissa away. They lockup once again, and Victoria leads Melissa to the corner, where they are broken up. Victoria then gives Melissa a nice slap in the face and backs off. Another lockup leads to an arm wrench and a takedown by Melissa. Victoria gets up as Melissa charges, but Victoria hits a powerslam for a two count.

Victoria hits a kick to the head of Melissa, and then pulls on her hair over her back. Victoria kicks her back down to the mat as she was attempting to get up, and then gives her a standing suplex for two. She locks on a sleeper hold, and Melissa attempts to fight back, but is slammed to the mat. Victoria picks her up, and Melissa tries to fight back once again, but Victoria kicks her back down. Victoria picks her up and nails the Widow’s Peak for the win at 3:20.

We finish up with a promo for the Wreckless Intent CD.

Match Result: Victoria defeats Melissa Anderson with the Widow’s Peak.
Match Length: 3:20
Best Spot: Victoria’s Widow’s Peak.

Segment 3: Eugene In Action
(Eugene vs. Devin Nicholson)

The piano hits, and Eugene comes out to the ring to a nice pop. Already in the ring is Devin Nicholson, who has a big physique. They lockup to start, which is followed into an arm wrench by Nicholson. Nicholson misses a clothesline and an elbow as Eugene taunts like the Junkyard Dog. He then taunts as if he was pissing on Nicholson, because that’s “funny”. Nicholson charges, but Eugene hits a drop toe hold. The two men get to their feet, and Nicholson hits a huge clothesline, to the dismay of the crowd. Nicholson chokes Eugene with his foot while using the ropes. A small “Eugene” chant starts as Nicholson pounds away at Eugene in the corner. Nicholson chokes him with his foot and then hits a scoop slam for a two count.

Nicholson wrenches Eugene’s neck in the middle of the ring, but Eugene fights out. Nicholson rakes eyes and throws his head onto the top turnbuckle, but Eugene no sells it and Hulks Up. Eugenes up and hits a few right and left hands, winds up his right arm, and hits a big right. Eugene picks Nicholson up and does the aeroplane spin thing, which gets nowhere. Eugene whips Nicholson into the ropes, but is countered with a kick to gut by Nicholson. Nicholson runs towards the ropes, comes off of them, and Eugene kicks him in the gut and hits a really bad stunner for the victory at 3:18. After the match, Eugene picks up Chioda and celebrates with him.

Match Result: Eugene defeats Devin Nicholson with the Stunner.
Match Length: 3:18
Best Spot: Eugene’s Stunner.

Segment 4: Carlito vs. Cade
(Carlito vs. Lance Cade)

Before the match, they show highlights from RAW, specifically the Triple H/McMahon and HHH/HBK segments, as well as the main event.

Derek Martin covered these segments in his 05.22.06 411’s WWE Raw Report.
J.D. Dunn covered these segments in his 05.22.06 RAWtopsy.
Peter Kent covered these segments in his 05.22.06 VIOLENT PANDA Weekly Review.

Lance Cade’s music hits, and he makes his way towards the ring. “I spit in the face of people who don’t want to be cool!” Carlito’s comes out to a huge pop for the second straight week on Heat. I really love what the writers are doing with Carlito. They’re pushing him fairly hard, but they’re not over killing the situation. I also love the fact that they’re pairing him up with Maria.

There’s a big “Carlito” chant to start the match. The two dance around the ring and lockup. Carlito follows with a headlock, but is whipped into the ropes, and Cade hits a big elbow, to the dismay of the crowd. They lockup once again, but this time Cade hits a knee to gut. Cade goes for a backdrop, but Carlito counters by flipping over Cade. Carlito shoves Cade into the ropes, but Cade holds on as Carlito rolls away. Carlito ducks a clothesline by Cade, runs off the ropes, but Cade nails a back body drop. Carlito makes his way into the turnbuckle and stalls by gesturing to Cade to hold up, and cheaply slaps him in the face.

Cade charges towards Carlito, but Carlito leaves the ring and runs around the outside with Cade chasing him. Carlito quickly rolls back into the ring and hits a dropkick to the face of Cade as he tries to enter the ring. Cade is still on the outside when Carlito uses the ropes to fly over them and onto Cade, but Cade catches him in mid air and sends him into the ringpost back first. Cade rolls Carlito back in and Lance follows. Cade picks him up off the mat, and gives him a backbreaker for two. A second cover is good for two.

Another big “Carlito” chants starts up. Cade picks Carlito up and sends him into the ropes. Carlito comes off the ropes and counters with a kick to the face. Carlito hits a few right hands, but Cade comes back with a big clothesline for two. Cade picks him up and applies an abdominal stretch for the first rest hold of the match. The crowd starts yet another “Carlito” chant. Todd Grisham calls it a capacity crowd, but there’s no chance that place was completely sold out. Carlito fights back with a few lefts and ducks a clothesline. He hits a kick to gut, runs off of the ropes, and hits a knee and two clotheslines.

Carlito attempts to whip Cade into the ropes, but is reversed and he gets whipped instead. Carlito reversed by jumping on the second rope and hiting a diving back elbow for two. Carlito picks Cade up and sends him into ropes. Cade counters a kick to midsection, and sends Carlito into the corner, and pounds away. The referee breaks them up, and Cade argues. Meanwhile, Carlito takes a bite of his apple as Cade argues with the ref. Cade comes over and picks Carlito up. Carlito throws the apple to the opposite side of the ring to get the ref distracted, spits the rest of the apple in Cade’s face. Carlito regains the momentum and hits the backcracker for the win at 4:57.

Match Result: Carlito defeats Lance Cade with a Backcracker.
Match Length: 4:57
Best Spot: Carlito’s diving elbow. For some reason I love that move.

Well, that’s it for the Heat Report. Scott Slimmer returns to his Heat duties next week, as I continue to recap Velocity. Have any questions or comments? Feel free to e-mail me.
