411’s Heat Report 07.23.06

July 23, 2006 | Posted by Dan Zurbruegg

Hey everyone, Scott Slimmer is on vacation for the next two weeks, so I’ll be filling in in the meantime. For those who don’t know me, I was a Velocity reporter here until it was cancelled when ECW started up. I then began to do TNA Global Impact recaps, but my computer has been screwed up for the past month and a half or so, and I haven’t been able to write reports up… until now. The next Global Impact recap should be up today (Tuesday), so check that out. Anyways, let’s get on with Heat.

The Preview

Segment 1: Val in Action
Tag Line: Val Venis goes one on one with Nick Berk this week on HEAT.
Running Time: 8:11
Bottom Line: Just your typical Val Venis match.

Segment 2: Tag Team Action
Tag Line: Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch take on Jakus Plisken & Cameron Bates.
Running Time: 7:17
Bottom Line: Well, I personally HATE Cade & Murdoch, so this one’s an easy thumbs down. It’s what you’d expect in a squash match with these two.

Segment 3: Diva Boot Camp
Tag Line: Highlights from Sgt. Slaughter’s Diva Search Boot Camp.
Running Time: 2:27
Bottom Line: Just a few highlights from the Diva Search; no reason to watch it.

Segment 4: Conway vs. Snitsky
Tag Line: Rob Conway take on Snitsky in HEAT’s Main Event.
Running Time: 9:40
Bottom Line: This was pretty good stuff, and I’m slowly become a Snitsky fan. I’ve always like Conway so this was enjoyable. Not sure about the finish, though.

The Review

Segment 1: Val In Action
(Val Venis vs. Nick Berk)

“Helloooo, ladies!” Val Venis makes his way to the ring as Maria is doing the announcing this week, since Lillian has to sell the injury. Todd Grisham welcomes us to Heat and is joined by Jonathan Coachman, who I had no idea was back as the Heat color commentator. The match starts 1:56 into the segment, with Val offering to shake Burk’s hand. The two lockup and Val gets in a bear hug. Berk goes around and applies one of his own. Val fights out with an arm wrench, but Berk slaps him in the face and then delivers a right hand.

Nick yells at the ref, and Val takes advantage by nailing a right hand and then slamming Berk’s face into the turnbuckle. Val gives him a chop and then slams his head in the opposite turnbuckle. Another chop leads to a shoulder thrust. Val whips him into the ropes and stops him with a running knee. Val plays to the crowd and does the running knee again. A Russian leg sweep leads to Val “shaking his money maker”, as Todd puts it. Val then pounds away until the ref breaks them up.

Val picks Berk up and attempts to German Suplex him, but Berk fights out and whips him into the corner. Venis counters by leaping backwards over a charging Berk. Val sells the left knee and hits a clothesline. Venis continues to sell the left knee and Berk takes advantage by dropkicking him in that knee. A drop toe hold toe leads to a leg lock, and Berk pounds away on the leg of Venis and then applies a leg lock.

Berk taunts, but Val fights back with a few right hands. Nick kicks him in the back of the knee and continues to work on the knee. He jumps on it by using the ropes and then twists it in the middle of the ring. Val kicks out of it and hits a knee to the face. A clothesline leads to two more. Val picks Berk up and chops him. Venis sends him into the ropes and gives him a spinebuster. Berk gets to his feet, and Val chops him. Berk gets whipped into the ropes and Val gives him a back body drop. Berk charges, but gets sent into the corner and Val pounds away. Val hits a half nelson slam and taunts for the Money Shot. He then climbs to the top and hits the Money Shot for the pin at 5:26.

We finish up as an advertisement for Great American match is shown, specifically the Khali/Undertaker match that didn’t occur.

Match Result: Val Venis defeats Nick Berk via the Money Shot.
Match Length: 5:26
Best Spot: Val’s Half Nelson Slam (don’t ask why)

Segment 2: Tag Team Action
(Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch vs. Jakus Plisken and Cameron Bates)

Generic southern music hits and Lance Cade and Murdoch makes their way to the ring. Maria is terrible as the ring announcer. Match starts 1:03 into the segment, with Cade starting off; I have no idea who starts off for the other team, as Grisham never said who was wrestling the entire match. Cade slaps the first jobber in the face and then delivers a shot to the back. Cade picks him up, runs off the ropes, and hits a shoulder block. Lance picks him back up again, but this time delivers a shot and tags Murdoch in.

Trevor gets in a punch and then an elbow to the head, and then kick him the ribs. Murdoch sends him into the corner, but the first jobber counters with a knee and tags in other jobber. Murdoch pounds away, and then sends the second jobber into the ropes and hits an elbow. Trevor sisses another elbow and gets rolled up for two. The second jobber charges, but Trevor counters with a drop toe hold. Murdoch pounds away and tags Cade in.

Lance hits a reverse atomic drop and pounds away with stomps. He sends the second jobber into the corner and makes another tag. Murdoch nails a chop and tags Cade right back in, and continues to beat him down. Another quick tag leads to Cade and Mudoch they whipping the second jobber a third time into the ropes (they did the same the previous to tags), and Murdoch chokes him with his foot. Trevor distracts the ref as Cade takes advantage. Murdoch hits a back suplex and Cade hits a leg drop, but the second jobber kicks out after two.

Cade tags in and they both send the second jobber into the ropes and hit a double back body drop. Lance twists his head and hits an elbow to the head. Cade continues to twist his head, but the second jobber fights out of it. He gets to his feet, goes off the ropes, jumps around Cade, and pushes him into the ropes and hits a drop kick. Murdoch tags in and so does first jobber. The first jobber gets in some right hands and hits an elbow. Cade comes in and delivers a spinebuster. The two hit the Sweet and Sour for the pin at 5:03

Another GAB promo is shown, this time hyping the main event.

Match Result: Murdoch and Cade win with the Sweet and Sour.
Match Length: 7:19 total
Best Spot: Murdoch and Cade’s Sweet and Sour

Segment 3: Diva Boot Camp
(Highlights From Sgt. Slaughter’s Diva Search Boot Camp)

Highlights of the Diva Search from RAW are aired.

Larry Csonka covered these segments in his 05.22.06 411’s WWE Raw Report.
Peter Kent covered these segments in his 05.22.06 VIOLENT PANDA Weekly Review.

An Advertisement for WWE Magazine is shown.

Segment 4: Conway vs. Snitsky
(Rob Conway vs. Gene Snitsky)

“Just look at me, oh just look at me. Ain’t I a sight to see?” Rob Conway enters and makes his way towards the ring. “It wasn’t my fault!” Snitsky comes out to a nice pop. Match starts at 1:47. They appear to go with a lockup to start, but Conway goes onto the top rope and taunts instead. Snitsky then does the same, but to a better reaction. Conway ducks a lockup and applies in a headlock, but gets sent into the ropes and runs into a shoulder block. Conway rolls out of the ring and quicky re-enters. Rob ducks a clothesline and delivers a few right hands. Snitsky reverses an Irish Whip into one of his own and hits a hip toss. Gene hits a scoop slam and sends Conway into the ropes, but Rob slides under and kicks Snitsky in the midsection. Rob attempts a suplex, but this time Snitsky reversesit into a standing vertical suplex.

Snitsky taunts and waits for Conway to turn around to he can charge and attack him, but Conway rolls out of the ring. He then gets on the apron and rakes Snitsky’s eyes. Conway makes his way back into the ring, and hits a chop block and then elbows Snitsky in the upper back. Rob pounds away and then baseball slides him out of the ring. Conway goes outside, climbs onto the top of the steel steps, and dives at Snitsky, but Gene catches him in mid air. Conway somehow gets free and throws Gene’s head into the steel post. Conway rolls back into the ring, but then comes out and goes after Snitsky. Conway clubs Snitsky on the back and rolls him back in, pounds away, and chokes him using his feet and the ropes.

Conway continues to pound away for a two count. Rob locks in a sleeper hold. Snitsky fights back and the two go back and forth. Conway ducks a clothesline and then hits a dropkick for two. Conway applies and headlock, but he fights out once again. Rob nails a poke to the eye. Snitsky reverses an irish whip into one of his own, but Conway counters with a kick to the face. Conway charges but runs right into a side walk slam. Conway gets up and hits two right hands. Snitsky hits a scoop slam and hits an elbow for two. Snitsky picks Rob up, and sends him into the corner. Conway counters with a kick to the face. Rob climbs onto the second rope and nails a diving leg drop to a standing Snitsky, which is good for a two count. Conway picks Snitsky up and attempts a suplex, but Snitsky shoves him into the ropes and hits a big clothesline as he comes off of them. Snitsky taunts and waits for Conway to get to his feet, and then hits a charging big boot for the pin at 6:59?

Match Result: Snitsky defeats Rob Conway with a Big Boot.
Match Length: 6:59
Best Spot: Conway’s diving leg drop.

Pretty bad week for Heat, though the main event was fine. Have any questions or comments? Feel free to e-mail me or Slimmer. I’ll be back for Heat next week, so let’s hope there’s something good for me to recap! Until next time…
