411’s TNA Impact Report 5.04.06

May 4, 2006 | Posted by Larry Csonka

Last week on Impact:

  • Abyss w/James Mitchell and NWA Title come to the ring.

Mitchell: “Christian Cage, Lockdown was all about brutality, violence and survival. Unlike you Cage, Abyss survived and walked out with the NWA Title firmly in his grasp. I am sure that you feel that you own the NWA world title, but possession is 9/10ths of the law. If anyone thinks they can take the title, I dare you to come out!”

    Rhino answers the challenge!

Match #1 Abyss defeated Rhino when Bobby Roode cost Rhino the match

  • Cage is here for revenge! He spears Abyss and starts to kick his ass. Mitchell takes the belt and runs away. Abyss has Cage and starts to beat him down. Abyss misses a charge and goes to the floor. Crowd hot for Cage as he grabs a mic.

Cage: “Abyss, I think you have something that belongs to the peeps! And I think the Christian Coalition would agree that no one wants to see Shrek as NWA Champion. So this was your plan. I say at Sacrifice, we hang that title belt and suspend it above the ring and mix in tables, ladders and chairs. And since you like the chains and tacks, toss them in for full metal mayhem! If it doesn’t happen before, I will take my belt back because that’s…how I roll!”

  • JB is with JJ, Steiner, Jackie and Gail. Jeff is dressed like a Salvation Army pimp. At Sacrifice they want Sting in a tag partner, and he can have any partner he wants. Larry Z is there, and Sting said he wants them in the ring tonight to see who his partner will be. Larry asks if Raven is here, and if JB sees him to let him know.

Back form commercial with an Alex Shelley movie. He has a special interview with Kevin Nash! That will air next week.

Match #2 X Cup Match: Team USA defeated Team Japan

  • X-Cup Standings:
    Team USA – 2-Points
    Team Japan – 0-Points
    Team Canada – 0-Points
    Team Mexico – 0-Points

  • JB is with AJ and Daniels. AJ says that AMW, in Lethal Lockdown he had his eyes opened. They are with JJ and have tarnished the tag titles. AJ says he chose Daniels to help him take the titles from AMW. The match is next week. What qualifies them Daniels asks, well AJ is the most prolific champion in TNA history and he is the longest running X Champ ever. They waged wars against each other, and together they will prove their greatness.
  • Raven attacked Larry Zbyzko as he was part of the introductions for the X-Title match

Match #3 Samoa Joe © defeated Jay Lethal to retain the X-Title

  • As Joe is still in the ring, JJ and Steiner come to the ring. They stare down on the ramp and Joe and Steiner have a face to face. Joe isn’t impressed.
  • Sting announce his partner? Sting comes out as JJ and Steiner wait in the ring. Sting walks right into the ring with them, which seems to not be that smart an idea. JJ says he already knows, as Sting models his new jacket. Sting says JJ gets to choose. He has tunnel #1 and #2 as choices, and the guys are actually there. It is all up to JJ to make the choice. JJ says this isn’t the Price is Right. Sting says he will get rid of the cancer that is JJ. What will it be, #1 or #2? JJ says the fans have no choice here.

JJ and Steiner discuss things, and Sting says this will be game show format. He has a hostess, Christi Hemme. She looks hot. We get hokey game show music (rip off of Jeopardy) and JJ has 0:30 seconds. He and Steiner discuss. Sting says if they don’t pick, things are null and void and they will have new choices the next time. JJ says he will not get pulled into the games. He says to show up at the PPV because Sting has no one.

Sting describes #1, is a former member of the n W o. JJ says he doesn’t care. Sting says he wants to show he meant business. #1 is also a 5-time world tag team champion with 4-different partners and is on probation in Georgia, and that’s a shoot and his mom was a former tag champion. It’s that asshole Buff Bagwell. Rot in hell you no selling asshole! JJ and Steiner are amazed that he is actually here.

JJ asks if that is all Sting could do? Sting says Buff is still the stuff, but JJ made a wise choice. #2 went to Miami U, and is a member of the Green Bay Packers HOF. He signed with the WBF and is a fugitive, 2-time WCW champion…Lex Luger. Lex gets about no reaction. JJ and Steiner bail as this drags on, as JJ wants to know where he dug these guys up.

    Today on iMpact:

NWA Tag Title Match: America’s Most Wanted © vs. AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels

World X-Cup Match: Team Mexico (Shocker and Magno) vs. Team Canada (Eric Young and Johnny Devine)

NWA Title Match: Christian Cage © vs. Alex Shelley

    TNA iMpact Starts…NOW!

Backstage Jackie and Gail argue. AMW is there and say to get shit in check. Storm drinks beer and says he is ready.

Highlights of last week are shown, opening, pyro, hype, Tenay, West, adrenaline rush!

Rock on, Daniels and AJ used AJ’s entrance and Daniels did the little “hide and go seek” from under his little hoodie, that was great. Storm is all aped up and selling the splash he took on top of the cage from AJ. Nice.

NWA Tag Title Match: America’s Most Wanted © w/Jackie and Gail vs. AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels

AMW attacks at the bell and it’s on. They toss Daniels to the floor and double team AJ. They work him over and keep Daniels on the floor. AJ avoids AMW and Daniels finally flies in with a top rope double clothesline. They clear the ring of AMW and we get a commercial @ 1:25.

Back @ 4:45 with AJ getting the sweet dropkick combo on Storm. Tag to Daniels, kicks to Storm and an Irish whip, reversals and a front lung blower by Daniels gets 2. Harris in to break things up, he then gets the proper tag and gets a nice stalling vertical suplex on Daniels. Tag back to Storm, and AMW gets some double team moves on Daniels to keep him on their side of the ring. Atomic drop/Russian leg sweep combo and they get 2. Harris chokes out Daniels, tags back to Storm and he gets a double fish hook on Daniels! FISH HOOK~! Daniels escapes, off he ropes, reversals but Storm with a knee and Daniels is cut off again. Harris in with a double sledge, atomic drop, off the ropes but Daniels battles back with a palm thrust! TAG to AJ! He takes out AMW with rights. Corner forearm to Harris. Torture rack on Storm! Spinning flap jack to Storm, but Harris pulls out the ref. Daniels dives out onto Harris, Gail in with a RANA…AJ catches her, but eats a superkick by Storm, allowing Gail to get a Swank looking RANA on AJ and Storm got the pin.

Winners: AMW @ 10:11 via pin

  • Really good match. They clicked and I really want to see them go on PPV for 20-minutes. The end worked out good as it fits what AMW has been doing since October. Also, Gail Kim’s RANA…killer sweet..

We return with a video promo for Sacrifice.

We then get a promo for Senshi.

World X-Cup Match: Team Mexico (Shocker and Magno) vs. Team Canada (Eric Young and Johnny Devine) w/Coach D’Amore

Eric and Shocker to begin. Alex Shelley is out to scout the match. Eric o the floor to complain as Devine and Magno start things off. Some reversals and hip tosses. Magno gets the crazy double spring arm drag deal on Devine. Rights by Devine, Eric and he double team him and Eric tags in. Off the ropes and Eric takes him down for 2. Devine tags back in, suplex on Magno for 2. Suplex, countered by Magno and Shocker in, misses a 619 but slams Devine, sanding moonsault gets 2. Slaps to Devine, 2nd rope rolling front head scissors. Twisting elbow gets 2. All 4-men in now, double dropkick by Team Mexico. Stereo dives by Team Mexico! Alex Shelley is there, Shocker yells at him. Back in the ring, Devine takes down Shocker or 2. Devine ends up running into Shelley, Shocker gets his wacky roll up and Team Mexico wins.

Winners: Team Mexico @ 6:01 via pin

  • Fun little match here. I really wish that they had a forth week to build the next PPV, because these matches could stand to go a bit longer.
  • X-Cup Standings:
    Team USA – 2-Points
    Team Mexico – 2-Points
    Team Japan – 0-Points
    Team Canada – 0-Points

Larry Z is out and he has an announcement. He has health issues now because of the probation thing. After what they saw earlier, AMW will defend the tag titles at Sacrifice against AJ and Daniels with Gail and Jackie barred from ringside. Raven is out and chases Larry. All of this chasing is good for Raven, he needs to burn the calories.

We are back with highlights of Sting’s tag team partner game show.

JJ and Scot Steiner come to the ring. JJ lost the Salvation Army pimp look. Sting and his new gear come to the ring. I LOVE GAME SHOWS~! He says they will cut to the chase. He says JJ gets one choice, if he refuses, next week it is different. JJ makes game show jokes and says he is tired of this and he has something to say. He says he best find a partner because he has the best one and they will defeat Sting. Steiner grabs JJ and wants him to take the deal, but he says he will let the fans help him. “Should I accept?” They all cheer, and he says he is not that stupid. He says Sting has no one else to dig up and he’ll go to next week, Sting’s choice. Sting says that this guy is an all-American college wrestler, real estate agent, a board of education member, 10-time NWA/WCW tag team champion, an avid outdoors men…he is…Rick Steiner! Sting and Rick do the old Steiner’s pose and Sting says that they gave him the choice.

We are back with the Alex Shelley interview of Kevin Nash. He says Sting and Steiner came back, but his phone didn’t ring. He has a graph, showing profits n wrestling. Nash drew well over 100-million, Austin was almost as good as he was, and of course Rock was a failure. This is hilarious. Shelley keeps putting him over and they dropped the name SPIKE like 100 times. He calls himself “a great worker, ok on the mic and in great physical shape while being drug free.” Part one closes with Nash saying that the X-Division is cute, but filler.

Cage comes to the ring without the title, which is still in Abyss’ possession.

NWA Title Match: Christian Cage © vs. Alex Shelley

Shelley and Cage jaw, Shelley keeps lightly pushing him and Cage starts just kicking his ass with rights. Clothesline by Cage, to the corner and chops by Cage. Rights to Shelley now and Shelley is down. Irish whip by Cage, Shelley tries a reversal, fails and eats another clothesline. Kicks by Cage, suplex by Cage drops Shelley onto the top rope. On the apron now, and Cage gets the inverted DDT on the apron. They brawl on the floor, Cage gets an extra rolly chair, puts him on it and gets a headset and camera and says he has a new documentary called, “Boot to the skull” and kicks Shelley in the head. He then does the commercial liner and adds, “we gotta pay the bills kids, don’t go away!” Commercial comes @ 4:00.

Back @ 7:00 with Cage still in control. Shelley gets a stiff boot, but eats a wheel barrel supple for 2 by Cage. Shelley gets a boot, flatliner into the ropes by Shelley and Cage goes to the floor. Suicide dive by Shelley, and he’s in control now. Rights by Shelley on the floor, back into the ring and a snap mare into a rear chinlock. Shelley works the arm now and into a necktie. Cage battles to his feet, and Cage escapes. Cage grabs Shelley, but Shelley gets a spinkick for 2. Cage chops back at Shelley, Cage then drops the back of Shelley’s neck off the top rope and goes up top…cross body gets 2. Tenay announces AMW/Roode vs. Rhino/AJ/Daniels for next week’s show. Rights by Cage on Shelley, off the ropes and a sky high powerbomb by Cage for 2, Forearm shots by Cage takes Shelley down. Picks Shelley up…ENZIGURI by Shelley! Back elbow by Cage, uppercut to Shelley for 2. Shelley escapes a DDT, tries the sliced bread #2, countered…UNPRETTIER. 1…2…3.

Winner: Christian Cage @ 11:13 via pin

  • Good main event this week. Shelley and Cage worked well and provided some fun stuff.

Cage has a mic now: Abyss, you run fast for a monster. You are 10-days away from getting your ass kicked and I am 10-days away from taking my NWA title back.

A pre-taped interview with Mitchell and Abyss runs. They tell Cage to show up next week if he wants his belt back.

  • Final Impact Thoughts: Another good show this week as the 3-match format is working really well, in my opinion. They had another X-Cup match, set up a new tag title feud and really showcased Alex Shelley and that is a good thing, because TNA needs to create new stars, and Alex Shelley could be one of those guys. Good show.
