411’s WWE Smackdown Report 08.31.07

Welcome everybody to the Smackdown Report. I’m finally back as I have been busy with work, concerts, coaching football, and college. Thanks a million to Daniel and you are now offically on my Christmas Cad list. Let’s jump into some Smackdown goodness!

The show kicks off with a Rey Mysterio video package about him returning tonight.

We head to the ring and Teddy Long is in the ring with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Great Khali and Mr. Translator Guy. Long tells Khali he has news for him and that is who will challenge Great Khali at Unforgiven for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Long announces there will be a series of matches to determine the #1 contender which will be Finlay vs. Kane and Rey Mysterio vs. Batista with the winners of each match meeting in the main event.

Match #1: Kane vs. Finlay in a Championship Competition Match

Kane grabs Finlay’s shillelagh to start but the ref tells him to get rid of it so Kane chucks it to the ramp. Hornswoggle places another shillelagh in the corner though. Kane pounds away on Finlay in the corner and then hits a awkward snapmare followed by a low dropkick to the jaw. Kane works on him in the corner again. Kane whips Finlay’s arm off the rope and begins to work on hit. Kane gets a wrist lock and bangs on the arm. Kane sends Finlay out of the ring and he goes out after him to sling his shoulder into the turnbuckle. Kane slams Finlay to his back and Finlay rolls out. Kane follows and Finlay is able to drive Kane into the ring steps and Finlay works on the ribs. Both men in the ring and Finlay nails a couple of boots. Kane fights back with a big uppercut followed by another. Kane misses the splash in the corner and Finlay gets to work on the arm some more. Finlay nails an elbow and goes for a top rope splash but Kane gets the knees up. Kane powers back and nails a huge splash. Finlay elbows him but Kane nearly takes Finlay’s head off with a right hand. Side slam by Kane and then a top rope clothesline. Kane nails the goozle and follows up with a chokeslam. Kane goes for the Tombstone but Finlay falls behind only to be hit with a big boot. Hornswoggle comes out to distract the ref and Finlay nails Kane with a shillelagh for the win. Finlay will face the win of Batista vs. Rey Mysterio later tonight. *1/2

Winner: Finlay via pin fall @ 7:21

We get highlights of Deuce & Domino jumping Matt Hardy and MVP last week in their basketball competition and next is the tag team title match. 21:40 36:39

We come back to Jesse and Festus talking about going back to school. Ok, friggin debut already.

Match #2: WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce & Domino w/Cherry vs. Matt Hardy and WWE United States Champion MVP for the WWE Tag Team Championship

Hardy starts the match by baseball sliding both Deuce & Domino. MVP and Deuce roll around in the ring and MVP nails a fireman’s carry. Drop toe hold by MVP and Hardy tags himself in. Tag to Domino and Hardy nails the right hands and a scoop slam. Splash/bulldog combo by Hardy. Hardy tags in MVP but MVP tags him back in and Hardy works on Domino’s shoulder. Domino gets some right hands and tags in Deuce. A couple of right hands and he tags Domino but Hardy nails them both with a double clothesline. Hardy nails the “AHHHHHH I’m on the top rope so look at me!!!!” elbow on Domino and MVP tags himself in. MVO gets Domino in the corner and tags in Hardy. Scoop slam by Hardy followed by an elbow drop for two. Domino distracts the ref and Deuce clothesline Hardy. Domino gets a two count as we go to commercial.

-Commercial-

We’re back with Domino controlling Hardy but Hardy gets a kick to the face. Domino slams Hardy into the corner and tags Deuce. Deuce chokes Hardy in the corner but Hardy nails some right hands. Deuce nails a drop toe hold though and tags Domino. Leg drop by Domino for a two. Choke hold by Domino but Hardy nails a jawbreaker. Domino tags in Deuce and he drops an elbow on Hardy. Deuce slams Hardy into the mat and delivers some clubs to the face. Deuce locks in a modified chin lock but Hardy gets to his feet and nails a back body drop. Deuce tags Domino and Domino stops Hardy from tagging. Modified headlock by Domino. MVP leaves the ring apron to hit on Cherry as soon as Hardy gets out of the headlock and misses the tag. Domino goes for the roll up but MVP actually slips in and breaks the pin. Domino nails the double knees to the jaw of Hardy though for two. Tag to Deuce and he nails a splash in the corner to Hardy. Tag to Domino and he hits a splash. Hardy fights back and nails both men with right hands. He goes for the Twist of Fate but Domino pushes him into Deuce off the apron. Hardy nails Domino with a Side Effect! Tag to MVP by slapping him in the face. Domino attacks Hardy from behind but Hardy nails the Twist of Fate. MVP throws Hardy over the ropes and makes the pin and we have new champs! ***

Winner and New WWE Tag Team Champions: Matt Hardy and MVP via pin fall on Domino by MVP @ 15:59

In the back, Vince McMahon is talking to Batista. He wishes him luck but he wanted to let Batista know that Batista is from Washington DC and that Vince got around a lot in that area and they share a lot of characteristics. Batista says he was raised by a single mom and they were poor and struggles so if Vince, a rich billionaire, was his father and he never helped out, Batista would beat the living Hell out of him. Vince tells him that maybe they don’t have anything in common after all.

We’re back and Eugene is shooting t-shirts to the audience until Mark Henry’s music hits. Eugene accidentally shoots a t-shirt at him and he destroys Eugene with a bear hug. Henry gets on the mic and announces that Undertaker is coming back at Unforgiven. Henry says he destroyed him once, and he will do it again. He’s going to take Undertaker’s body into the desert…GONG! GONG! Hit the blue lights and we get a creepy video of the Undertaker coming back with Taker’s hand reaching out of the ground.

Match #3: Batista vs. Rey Mysterio in a Championship Competition Match

The former WWE Tag Team Champions shake hands and hug before the match. They lock up and Batista shoves Rey into the corner. Rey tries taking Batista down by the leg but Batista counters and Rey gets to the ropes. Rey gets a quick kick in on the leg of Batista. Few more kicks by Rey and then a spinning head scissors. Batista gets up though and nails a big clothesline for two. Batista throws Rey out of the ring. Rey gets back in the ring and misses the cross body as Batista moved. Body scissor submission locked in by Batista but Rey fights out of it. Batista whips him in the corner but Rey moves out of the corner and dropkicks Batista’s leg. Batista chases Rey around the ring but Rey slips back in and nails a baseball slide. Batista back in the ring and Rey goes for the whip but Batista chucks him in the corner and then a big boot. He goes for the Batista Bomb but Rey grabs the ropes and lands on the ring apron. He lays Batista out to dry and nails a springboard senton. Dropkcik to Batista and he land on the middle rope. 619 attempt by Rey but Batista catches him and nails a spinebuster. Finlay hits the ring with a chair but Batista gets him out of the ring and grabs the chair. The ref tries to take away the chair but Batista shoves the ref causing the disqualification. *1/2

Winner: Rey Mysterio via disqualification @ 5:57

We’re back and Vince McMahon comes down to the ring with Jonathan Coachman. Vince talks about what happened on RAW with Triple H and the several women he brought out. He wants to go on record saying that he did not have sexual relations with those women. Coach wants to prove that Mr. McMahon only chooses the finest women and he has a few of them in the back. The first one was in 1983 after a show in Madison Square Garden and he brings out Sherrill. She says he is the best lover she ever had. The next woman goes back to New Year’s Eve in 1977 in New Haven, Connecticut….the same night he met Howard Finkle. He brings out Teresa, Elizabeth, and Spice from that night. They all say that thanks to Mr. McMahon, they brought in the new year with a bang. The next lady, sai he change her life forever. Mary Katherine….well….Sister Mary Katherine. She says ever since the one night together, the only other man that could ever satisfy her like he did is God. The girls leave and Mr. McMahon talk about the McMahons coming to RAW on Monday and he hates them because all they care about is money. Vince wants us to know that money is not the most important thing and if his son is revealed, he should be embraced by the family.

Masterlock Challenge with Chuck Palumbo

There is some stalling and hesitation with Masters early an then Masters just ambushes Paulmbo instead of locking in the Masterlock but Palumbo nails some right hands and sends Masters out of the ring.

In the back, Jaime Noble is talking about Hornswoggle and Shannon Moore wishes him good luck but Noble freaks out. Noble says next week, he is going to be cruiserweight champion and nobody will be laughing at him. Noble walks away and it appears Moore put a “I Love Leprechauns” sign on Noble’s back.

Match #4: Finlay vs. Rey Mysterio in a Championship Competition Match

They lock up but hit the ropes so they break up. Lock up again and Finlay nails a shoulder block. Rey comes back an gets some good kicks to Finlay’s leg an then a springboard spinning facebuster. Kick by Rey and some shoulder thrusts in the corner. Finlay fights back with a clothesline for a two count. Finlay runs at Rey and Rey sends him over the ropes and nails a drop kick. Rey goes outside the ring and Hornswoggle trips him and Finlay takes him down as we go to commercial.

-Commercial-

We’re back and Finlay has Rey in a modified chin lock. Rey slips out of the hold but Finlay takes Rey down again. Scoop slam by Finlay into the bottom rope a couple of times. Single leg crab by Finlay now but Rey gets to his base and nails an enzaguri. Drop toe hold to the corner by Rey and then a big kick to the face by Rey for two. Finlay sitting on the ropes and Rey hits a 619 to the back of the head an nails a springboard sunset flip for the win! **1/4

Winner: Rey Mysterio via pin fall @ 8:33

After the match, Great Khali comes out to the ring and they stare down until Khali chucks Rey. Khali goes for the Claw but Batista hits the ring an he takes down Great Khali to the mile rope. 619 by Rey followed by a Spear by Batista! Khali leaves while Batista and Rey celebrate.

After Thoughts: Not too bad of a show this week. I still continue to love the Matt Hardy/MVP feud and I like the way they won the belts, but I hope they don’t waste the Tag Titles just to put this rivalry over. Rey looks good and should help shake up the main event scene.
