411’s WWE Smackdown Report 2.22.08
I just wanted to thank Larry for covering for me last week. I had some call ins at work and had to work later. Thank you Larry, I owe you huge, and still owe you for helping me in the Summer. Man that man is either a real trooper or has got to hate me by now. Also, today is the nine year anniversary of me watching wrestling!
For those who do not remember or new to the Smackdown Report, I keep a scoring system and at the end of the year I will crown the 2008 Smackdown Wrestler of the Year. I have been forgetting to put the scoring system up the last couple reports so here it is:
1. The winner of each match will receive two points unless it is by count out or DQ in which they will receive one point.
2. The winner of a title match will receive an additional point for retaining and two additional points for winning a belt.
3. The winner of the main event will get an additional point.
4. The winner of a specialty match will get an additional point.
5. In a tag team match, a wrestler on the winning team that does not pick up the win will get one point. If the match ends in a DQ or a DRAW, both members of the winning team will get one point.
6. If the match ends in a draw, all wresters involved will get half a point for participating.
7. If it is an elimination match, each elimination is worth one point.
8. If the match is for example, a Best Two Out of Three Falls Match or an Iron Man Match, each fall is worth one point.
We kick the show off with the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Edge, and the Edgeheads. Edge gets on the mic and brags about weaking Rey Mysterio at the house show and then taking him out at No Way Out. At WrestleMania, he now gets a chance to face the Undertaker. He says he is not afraid of Undertaker. He sees Undertaker as an opportunity to cement his own legacy. Undertaker is undefeated at WrestleMania, just like Edge…..accept when he lost last year but that was a ladder match so we won’t count that. For fifteen years, people have asked who will beat Undertaker. Everyone who has stood up has fallen down. Edge stares into the camera and swears he will not fall. This year it all ends. Cue the light dimmer, and lights back on. Taker is in the ring and is about to Chokeslam Edge. The Edgeheads attack, get their asses beat, and Edge runs away.

Match #1: Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Shelton Benjamin in a Money in the Bank Qualifying Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Snitsky. Mr. Kennedy vs. Val Venis. Shelton Benjamin vs. Jimmy Wang Yang. Can we get some matches where it is not so obvious who the winner will be? At least this match seems to have more interest than the previous two from RAW. Cole and Coachman bring up Benjamin in Money in the Bank 1, but totally neglect the fact that he was also in Money in the Bank 2. Benjamin takes Yang down for a quick one count. Benjamin gets Yang in the corner but Yang gets a victory roll for two. Benjamin fires back with a back body drop for two. Benjamin powerbombs Yang into the turnbuckle and gets a two count after a sloppy pin attempt. Benjamin gets a reverse chin lock and then clubs Yang in the back of the neck. He picks up Yang but he counters into another victory roll for two. Roll up by Yang for two. He walks right into a suplex by Benjamin however for two. Benjamin works on the back until Yang fights back with some shots to the head with his knees. Benjamin stays on top though. Benjamin puts Yang on the turnbuckle and pounds on him. He goes for a superplex but Yang knocks him off. Benjamin jumps right back up though, leaps on the top rope, and nails the top rope over head suplex. Yang rools out of the ring and Benjamin brings him back in for two. Reverse chin lock by Benjamin until Yang gets to his feet. Benjamin goes for another powerbomb but Yang nails the hurricanrana. Small package by Yang for two followed by a wicked heel kick for two. Spinning head scissors by Yang and he is on fire. Rolling kick by Yang and he nails a top rope crossbody for the near fall. Sunset flip by Yang for two. He misses the moonsault and Benjamin nails the running STO for the win. Great match up.
Winner: Shelton Benjamin via pin fall
Points: Shelton Benjamin wins via pin fall (2 Points)
In the back, Teddy Long meets up with Maryse. She wants to talk to Long in private so they go into his office. Long, we thought you learned you lesson playa.

BISCUITS AND GRAVY! The reason to buy WWE The Music Volume 8. Not for Mr. Kennedy’s new tune.

Festus jumps Deuce as soon as the bell rang and goes to town on him. Tag to Jesse and Festus slams him down on Deuce for a two count. Drop toe hold and a dropkick by Jesse for two. Deuce throws Jesse out of the ring but Jesse out quicks him and nails him with a dropkick back in the ring. Deuce pushes Cherry into Jesse for a distraction and he nails him with a kick. Deuce gets the headlock on Jesse and then tags Domino. Domino nails the “I’ll Take my shirt off since we switched to HD” for two. Jesse has a bloody nose now and Domino gets a headlock. Domino tries to attack Festus but he headbuts him and then Domino and Jesse clunk heads. Tag to Festus and he just Goldbergs all over Deuce and Domino. He nails huge kicks to both men. He tags Jesse, launches him from the top rope, and Jesse gets the pin on Domino.

Match #3: Big Daddy V w/ Matt Striker vs. Shannon Moore
Who the Hell did Moore piss off? Daddy starts off my throwing Moore. Throwing Moore what? Haha. Shannon Moore puns are more interesting than Big Daddy V matches. Sorry folks. He slams down Moore. Chokes Moore. Daddy nails Moore with the Star Trek chop. Throws Moore again. Daddy misses the spalsh in the corner and Moore nails a dropkick. He dropkicks the knee and works on it until Big Daddy V nails the Samoan Drop (but he’s not even…..no, I won’t go there). He nails the elbow drop on Moore for the win.
Winner: Big Daddy V via pin fall
Points: Big Daddy V wins via pin fall (2 Points)

Match #4: Batista vs. WWE United States Champion MVP (non title)
I don’t think MVP has defended the United States Championship since Armageddon or a week later in a rematch with Mysterio. Batista shoves MVP early but MVP locks in a headlock. Batista gets to the ropes. MVP attacks him in the corner but Batista fires back. Batista works on the back of MVP until MVP drags Batista into the second turnbuckle. MVP works on the neck with some shots and gets a two count. Running boot to Batista by MVP. Batlista lands outside the ring and gets back in at a 5 count. MVP jumps him and nails a drop toe hold. MVP mounts Batista and nails some shots for a two count. MVP locks in a modified clutch and then a headlock. Batista takes him down but MVP kicks him out of the ring. MVP goes outside and slams Batista into the ring apron a few times. Both men are back in the ring and MVP atacks the neck again but Batista picks him up and locks in a bearhug. He can’t hold onto him though and MVP nails a running knee slam. Batista fights back and goes for the Batista Bomb but MVP runs to the ring apron and whiplashes Batista. He nails a big boot to Batista for two. He goes for the Play Maker but Batista nails him with (3)THREE (3) Spinebusters and a Batista Bomb for the win. MVP looked like a million bucks tonight virtually owning the Animal until the final twenty seconds.
Winner: Batista via pinfall
Points: Batista wins via pinfall (2 Points)

Match #5: Great Khali vs. Kane
WRESTLEMANIA REMATCH ALERT!!! Khali shoves Kane and Kane bitch slaps him! Well, it was an uppercut but it sounded like a bitch slap, and trust me, I know what a bitch slap feels….err….sounds like. Anyway, Khali shoves Kane around and kicks away at him in the corner. Kane fires back and goes to the top rope, but Khali chops him down. Big boot by Khali and he locks in the Khali Vice Grip on the shoulder. Kane battles out and nails a big boot, but Khali chops him. He locks in the Khali Vice Crip to the skull but Kane falls on him. Khali locks his legs around Kane but his shoulders are down and Kane gets the three count. Khali doesn’t realize that and won’t let go of the hold. He finally does and agues with the ref who won as Kane walks off.
Winner: Kane via pinfall
Points: Kane wins via pinfall (2 Points)

Match #6: Chuck Palumbo vs. Matt Jackson
Palumbo nails a stiff forarm but eats a dropkick. He fires back with a big boot and whips Jackson out of the ring. He slams Jackson into the turnbuckle a couple times and throws him back in the ring. Stiff clothesline by Palumbo, fall away slam, and the Full Throttle ends it for Chuck.
Winner: Chuck Palumbo via pin fall
Points: Chuck Palumbo wins via pin fall (2 Points)

Rey Mysterio comes out as we are in the 6-1-9 after all. He addresses his torn bicep and he needs to have surgery done this weekend which means he has to miss WrestleMania for the second year in a row. ~Spanish Talk~. It’s killing him, but if this is the last time he steps in the ring before he has to go under the knife, he’s happy to do it in his home town. ~Spanish Talk~. Vicky Guerrero comes out and says she doesn’t give a damn that he is hurt. All she cares about is last week when he interupted herself and Edge and accidently nailes her with the seating senton. She is furious so she makes Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero, right now!
Match #7: ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio (non title)
Chavo jumps Rey at the bell and pounds away on him. Rey fights back with a headscisors but then Chavo slams him down after Rey favors the injured arm.
-Commercial-
We’re back with Chavo working on the bad arm of Mysterio. Rey gets some kicks in but Chavo nails a dropkick. Chavo goes back after the arm and even baseball slides the bad arm. Rey fights back and whips Chavo out of the ring. He runs off the apron and nails the Seating Senton. Both men in the ring and Chavo goes to nail a superplex on Rey but Rey knocks him off the top and nails the top rope Seating Senton for two. Rey breaks through a sunset flip and nails a dropkick for two. Huge kick by Rey and 619! He goes for the Drop of the Dime but his arm gives up. He goes to the top rope and Chavo knocks him off. Three Amigos to Mysterio but he misses the Frog Splash. Rey gets a roll up for the win!
Winner: Rey Mysterio via pin fall
Points: Rey Mysterio wins via pin fall in the main event (3 Points)
After the match, Vicky Guerrero says she is going to hurt Rey Mysterio. This brings out Big Show and he just destroys Mysterio including stepping in the injured arm and finishes him with a chokeslam after walking around the ring with him.
Good show this week. I don’t know if you should have an injured wrestler defeat one of your world champions, but this could very well be Mysterio’s final match. Not enough Edge/Taker stuff but we still have a month to go. Hopefully we see Matt Hardy return soon to set up a program with MVP for Mania. I still was impressed with MVP tonight as he carried Batista. In the Smackdown standings, Rey Mysterio retakes the lead from the Undertaker, but with his injury expect him to fall off the radar in the next couple of weeks. Batista also passes Finlay and takes the #3 spot.
1. Rey Mysterio (13)
2. Undertaker (11)
