Backstage Details on Original Plans for a Big Cass & Enzo Amore in WWE, Why Cass Returned as a Solo Act

On last week’s edition of WWE Raw, Big Cass suffered another loss to Dragon Lee. Prior to Big Cass’ WWE return earlier in August, there were rumors of Enzo Amore making a WWE return as well. However, Cass returned to WWE as a solo act.
During today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio (via F4WOnline.com), Dave Meltzer offered more details regarding why Big Cass and Enzo Amore did not reunite earlier this year.
Meltzer explained, “There was talk of Enzo in NXT. It was talked to me like it was pretty much a done deal, but they were gonna keep Enzo and Cass apart because of the idea that if they put them together, Cass’ upside is very limited in that tag team based on how WWE does tag teams.”
He continued, “But now, with Cass in the spot that he’s in, being with Enzo may not be the worst thing in a tag team. So I suppose they could do that. Seems kind of weird. What does Cass need Enzo for when he’s beating these guys up all by himself anyway?”
During last night’s WWE Raw, Cass interfered during Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee’s tag team bout against The Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh. Cass pulled Lee off the ring apron, enabling McDonagh to hit Mysterio with a headbutt for the victory.
After the match, Cass destroyed Mysterio and Lee with a big boot. It remains to be seen if Enzo Amore will return to WWE at some point and potentially reunite with Big Cass.
