Bobby Lashley’s most infamous storyline involved his relationship with and wedding to Lana, and he recently recalled how Vince McMahon pitched it to him. The storyline ran in late 2019 and saw Lashley and Lana hook up to the dismay of Rusev, including a wedding segment on the December 15th, 2019 episode of Raw where Liv Morgan interrupted and said she was in love with Lana.

Most parties involved in the storyline have discussed how they felt about it, and Lashley touched on it in his interview with Good Karma Wrestling when asked about storylines he questioned. He noted that he understands now why he was put in the storyline and recalled Vince McMahon saying he wanted Lashley to feel uncomfortable and vulnerable so audiences could connect with him. You can see the highlights below:

On Storylines He Questioned At the Time:

“Man, if I went down the line, man, it’d be about a hundred different storylines that it was like, ‘What was going on then?’ And at the same time, I understand why I was put in those in those roles. Like, I did the deal where I was married, where me and Lana that everybody was talking about. We went through the wedding and everything like that.”

On Why He Was Put in the Storyline:

“Actually, I was told they wanted to put me in there because they wanted me to just relax. Because a lot of the people backstage knew me as Bobby, and the crowd looks at me as this opposing figure that [is] ready to beat people up and tear people apart.

“Well, Vince at the time, he was saying, ‘I want people to see more of you. I want you to feel uncomfortable so that you can just feel comfortable being uncomfortable.’ And you have to do those story lines on TV so that you can be able to do that. Let somebody in to you, which you want to keep protected because you don’t want to be criticized. But sometimes you just got to open up the floodgates and let everybody in on you. And right now, that’s what I’ve been doing. I’ve been just letting people in on me. You can see me. I don’t mind being me. I can still beat people up. But I’m the nicest guy you’ll ever meet.”
