Latest On Chris Jericho Deciding Between AEW and WWE

Tony Khan said this week in an interview with Torg & Elliott that he wants Chris Jericho back in AEW.

“Chris Jericho has been here since the very beginning,” Khan said. “I have so much great respect for Chris Jericho. I would love to have Chris in AEW any time. We absolutely want Chris Jericho back in AEW, and hopefully soon. He’s been great with us and been with us since the first event. The very first AEW World Champion, and Chris is a huge part of the history in AEW and is still in great shape and a great wrestler.”

Dave Meltzer noted in the The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that it’s unlikely Khan will put Jericho back on AEW TV unless Jericho signs a new deal with the company. From Jericho’s perspective, Meltzer noted that Jericho will make it clear to both sides that he’d love to be there, and will make a lot of money either way, whether it is staying with AEW or returning to WWE. He added that it is to his advantage to keep both sides guessing, and if he does return to AEW, having picked AEW over WWE would help him with AEW fans, but that a return to WWE seems to make more sense at this stage in his career.

From a schedule perspective, Jericho will likely end up with a similar schedule wherever he goes, allowing him to work on other acting and music projects. Meltzer noted that if Jericho does decide to retire soon, he can look at how AEW handled Sting’s final run, and how WWE handled John Cena and Goldberg.
