Ciocco’s AEW Grand Slam Collision Review 10.10.26

SICKOS! It’s S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night, which means we are in for the latest edition of Collision! But wait, there’s more, as tonight is night two of a week in Paris after Tuesday’s Dynamite Grand Slam Paris. And tonight’s show will feature more of the same great action that we got on Dynamite!

Titles will be on the line tonight, as The Young Bucks will defend the World Tag Team Titles against DA DOGS, and Andrade El Idolo will defend the National Title against Michael Oku. We also have a pair of matches with implications, starting with Lee Moriarty and Speedball Mike Bailey in a qualifier for the Clockwork Carnage match, and The Sisters of Sin will face Divine Dominion and the team lovingly known as WRATHLANDER for a shot at the Women’s World Tag Team Titles.

Elsewhere on the card, The Conglomeration will team up to oppose the Death Riders in an 8-person tag, while Chris Jericho will face Nick Wayne in a continuation of their riveting feud. All of this and, of course, so much in store for us tonight!

By the way, HI, it’s me! Everyone should already know me by now, but if you don’t comment on Dynamite but you do comment on Collision, I’m Ryan, and I will be taking over Collision moving forward! So, when you think about it, this makes me the epicenter of all things AEW events on the site (and TNA, but I digress.)

But enough about me and enough about you, let’s get ready to COLLIDE!

GSF

Tonight is night two of Grand Slam week from the Adidas Arena in Paris, France! Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Nigel McGuinness have the action for us!

An Eagles fan in France! NOICE!

The Mixed match is leading us off!

Tornado Rules Match: Roderick Strong, Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, and Willow Nightingale vs. Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia, Wheeler Yuta, and Marina Shafir

You may be surprised by this, but everyone fights everyone at the bell. It’s still so surreal to have heard Wheeler Yuta be a babyface in Pittsburgh, but now it’s back to business. Former best friends Cassidy and Yuta trade crucifix attempts. Yuta stops the Stun Dog Millionaire attempt, but O’Reilly is there to save him. Marina gives no fucks and goes after Kyle! Crossarm breaker from O’Reilly, but Marina turns it around into a triangle choke. O’Reilly is hesitant to hit Shafir, but she kicks Kyle to the corner. This allows Garcia the chance to come in and attack Kyle.

Willow is back, and she shoves Danny into Marina. Willow uses her big girl power to take down Marina, but Shafir catches her with a release German. Roll-up by Willow for a two. More strikes are traded, and Willow with a scoop slam! Claudio is in, Willow won’t back down! He goes to kick her, but Strong is in with chops. They gang up on Claudio until Marina comes back in. Willow and Marina fight to the floor as Strong hits a dropkick to Claudio. He charges Castagnoli, but Claudio sends Roddy to the floor. Cassidy is back with an around the World DDT. Yuta trips Cassidy and sets him up for an Area Code Jones from Marina. She spikes Cassidy’s head on the apron. This is followed by everyone showing each up with moves off the apron. Well, except for Cassidy, Claudio catches him and throws him into the barricade. It’s a team huddle as we hit the break.

The Death Riders have O’Reilly surrounded in the corner as we return. Marina and Willow continue to fight on the floor while O’Reilly absorbs the shots and he returns fire. But, as one would expect, he gets overwhelmed. Strong tries his hand, but he too is overwhelmed. Claudio monkey flips Yuta to the top rope and he takes out Kyle and Roddy with a crossbody! That was neat. Cassidy is back and he sends Claudio to the floor. He avoids Marina and takes out everyone (including his own teammates) on the floor! Willow is back, Yuta tries to save Marina, but he gets the POUNCE! PERIOD! Spinebuster from Willow, the cover, but Claudio with a double stomp to the back of Nightingale! Cassidy with the Orange Punch! Cassidy wants the Giant Swing! Claudio mocks being bored by Cassidy, who abandons ship and hits a PK instead. Beach Break attempt, but Claudio escapes and shows Cassidy how the Giant Swing really works!

O’Reilly is back and he takes care of Claudio. Garcia is in with a front guillotine, counter from O’Reilly, Twist and Shout from Danny! IT’S A DOMESTIC SITUATION WHEN WILLOW AND RODDY GO AT IT! Mother’s Milk, but Willow saves it with a back senton to Marina! Garcia with the Dragon Tamer on Willow, but Marina is put in the Toehold by Kyle! Roddy is back, Brainbuster to Danny. Busaiku knee for both Cassidy and Strong! Death Rider Train runs over O’Reilly, and an assisted Neutralizer finishes it!
WINNERS: The Death Riders
TIME: 14:30
THOUGHTS: Action packed match to kick off the show. Everyone tried to outdo everyone else, and it was cool to see the ladies also mix it up with the men, especially Roddy and Marina.
RATING: ***3/4

Chris Jericho is in the back, and he pimps his Rocking Rave Cruise. He also throws in an Iron Maiden reference. Noice!

BREAK IN PROGRESS!

From Jericho talking to Jericho wrestling! DRINK IT IN, MAN!

Nick Wayne vs. Chris Jericho

Nick holds his ears while the fans sing Judas, so Nick attacks before the bell. Wayne kicks Jericho and mocks the fans, allowing Jericho the chance to chop away at Wayne. Wayne fires back with a flying back elbow. Wayne with straight punches to the head of Jericho, but he pays for that with a dropkick. Jericho wants a bite of Nick’s head, leading to a joke about biting and catering. Jericho gets overzealous and is sent to the floor by Wayne. Nick to the apron and he hits a moonsault, almost crashing into the announce table.

Wayne sends Jericho into the ring, but he takes the top off the announce table and makes really weird noises. Wayne looks to re-enter the ring, but Jericho cuts him off with a running dropkick. Jericho to the top and he hits a crossbody to Nick! Jericho rubs a bald guy’s head at ringside and then goes back to beating up Wayne. Jericho gives a fan one of his necklaces but runs into a Sliced Baguette #2! Wayne off the ring steps, but Jericho catches him and hits a DVD onto the announce desk! I AM THE TABLE, DUN DUN, as we hit the break!

Jericho is delivering the mounted punches and snaps off the Rana as we return. Corner clothesline and Jericho sets up Wayne again. YOU STILL GOT IT chants; more mounted punches and another Rana follows. We visit a third corner, and Jericho wants to know if the fans want more. They, indeed, do want more, so Jericho hits more mounted punches and another Rana. Jericho going for the fourth corner, and what do you know, it actually works! Jericho looking Judas Effect, but Wayne counters with a neckbreaker, like he didn’t take 40 punches and four Ranas.

Chops from both men, Jericho off the ropes with a lariat. Wayne again counters the Judas Effect with a STUNNER, but he rolls right into the Code Breaker for a two. Jericho looking Lionsault, but Wayne kicks out his legs. Wayne with a roundhouse kick, but Wayne’s World is countered into the Walls of Jericho! Wayne bites the ankle of Jericho to get free! Jericho pounds away on Wayne, and Bryce Remsburg pushes him back. Jericho pushes Bryce (No DQ), and he takes a low blow from Wayne. Big kick to the head, Wayne’s World connects. and Nick wins it!
WINNER: Nick Wayne
TIME: 13:30
THOUGHTS: So the series is now tied up at one aside, meaning that we are going to get a tiebreaker/rubber match. WrestleDream perhaps? Not bad, but not great, either.
RATING: ***

Konosuke Takeshita video package. He knows that he is still a Champion, and he wants in the Clockwork Carnage match! Hell yeah!

TIAGA, TIAGA, TIAGA!

Clockwork Carnage Qualifying Match: ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty vs. Speedball Mike Bailey

Lock-up at the bell, Lee takes Speedball to the ropes. Moriarty with a cheap shot, counters galore, and Bailey with a snap Rana. Lee ends up on the floor, where Bailey takes him out with a Tope Suicida! Back in the ring, Lee avoids Speedball’s offense and we have a stand-off! Moriarty wrestles Bailey to the mat with a head scissor. Bailey escapes with a handstand and kips up! Moriarty with a stun-gun and a lariat which leads into a basement dropkick for just a one. Lee with the stranglehold, but Bailey rolls Lee out to the floor. Bailey off the ropes with the Crossover Moonsault which takes us to the break!

Moriarty is coming as Bailey is going as we return. Tope Suicida from Lee connects! Moriarty goes for the legs, but Bailey slaps his hands away and hits the Moonsault Double Knees! At the count of nine, both men make it back into the ring and they grab hands. Both men trade, neck snap from Lee into a pin for a two. Impaler DDT from Lee gets him another two, and he turns it into the Border City Stretch. Bailey rolls him up for a two to escape. Bailey with a Michinoku Driver, Lee kicks out at two and goes into the London Bridge. One from Bailey for a two. Speedball connects with the Time and Adventure! Speedball to the top, the Ultimo Weapon finishes this one!
WINNER: Speedball Mike Bailey
TIME: 9:45
THOUGHTS: I don’t think anyone believed that Bailey was losing here, especially in France, seeing as to how Bailey IS French-Canadian. Still a great effort from Lee here, and more TV for the Pure Champion is ALWAYS welcome!
RATING: ***3/4

Post-match, Speedball celebrates his victory. Here comes the World Heavyweight Champion BRUV to celebrate with Bailey.

Video package for the Demand. Ricky says Clockwork Carnage is the first of its kind in wrestling, and no one has better endurance than he does. It is time for him to become the AEW World Champion. AH-HAAAAAAAA!

The Most Dangerous NEW LEV-EL!

AEW Trios Champion Swerve Strickland w/The New Level vs. Carlie Bravo w/STP

Bravo tries to jump Strickland at the bell, but that fails and he gets smacked around for a bit as a result. WHOSE HOUSE chants, and it feels weird hearing Nana chant it again lol. Bravo sends Strickland to the apron, but Swerve is back with a flying clothesline. Basement dropkick and a two for Strickland. Strickland stretches out Bravo, Carlie bites hie hand, so Strickland switches it into an Octopus Hold. Trish Adora gets on the apron, but this backfires for Bravo as Swerve hits him with a neckbreaker.

The New Level mean mug for the camera as Strickland sends Bravo to the apron. Carlie snaps the face of Strickland over the top rope, and he rolls back into the ring and hits the Russian Leg Sweep. Bravo mucks it up with STP then mocks Nana’s dance. Bravo grounds Strickland, but Swerve gator rolls out of it from the corner and hits Bravo with a Vertical Suplex. Roll through, Swerve off the top with the back elbow. Swerve dances, and he hits the rolling flatliner! Shane Taylor distracts the ref, allowing Shawn Dean the chance to attack Strickland. Kofi and Austin take care of him, but Taylor runs over both of them. Strickland with a flying knee strike to Taylor, but here comes Bravo off the apron with a flying shoulder tackle. DDT through the ropes gets Carlie a two. He misses the axe kick, Strickland with the roll-up, Bravo back to his feet, House Call connects! Swerve with the Swerve Stomp to end this one.
WINNER: Swerve Strickland
TIME: 6:40
THOUGHTS: Another “no doubt about it” match winner, but again, it’s still nice to see STP on Collision. Pretty good stuff, but it never felt like it left first gear.
RATING: ***1/4

The Death Riders are in the back. Jon Moxley says one loss will not keep them down and he mocks Mark Davis. Gabe Kidd says they act like one win is their entire season and he wants the Don Callis Family to bring one and all next week because he’ll take all of them out. Marina Shafir says this is an attack on their love of professional wrestling. No one is willing to suffer for this sport of wrestling more than they are. Moxley grabs his title and looks at it as Marina walks off.

HOW YOU KNOW?

AEW National Title Match: Andrade El Idolo (C) vs. Michael Oku

The bell rings as Andrade and Oku circle one another. They trade counters, Oku with the head scissor, but Andrade lands on his feet. Side Swipe by Oku, he sends Andrade into the ropes, but it’s time for some Tranquillo! Oku with a dropkick to send Andrade to the floor. Both Oku and Amirah Blair get the crowd clapping, but Andrade moves out of the way. Oku gives chase, but Andrade hits an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. Andrade finds tonight’s baddie and takes a selfie. Miller also wants a selfie with him, so she pulls her phone out from her bosom and goes to take a picture. It’s a ruse, however, allowing Oku the chance to hit a big Senton to Andrade on the floor. They laugh it up as we hit the break.

Andrade is back in control with Oku down in the corner as we return. IT’S A TRAP, as Oku catches Andrade running in and applies the single leg crab! Andrade kicks Oku away, but Michael hits the PK and then hits the ropes for a Springboard Moonsault for a two! Oku to the top, Frog Splash to the back of Andrade! Oku heads back up top, but the well is empty on a second Frog Splash. Oku ducks one Dos Mueres, but not a SECOND one. The DM wins it for our main man!
WINNER: Andrade El Idolo (And still!)
TIME: 8:20
THOUGHTS: Tonight seems to be filled with a lot of “no crap” match results, but the quality of said matches has been really good despite this, and this one was no exception.
RATING: ***3/4

Post-match, Andrade has the mic. He has been waiting for the right time to cash in his World Title shot, but in the meantime, he has been defending his title every week. If there is anyone in the back who thinks they can beat him, he has one question!

Sorry, I don’t think MY SHADOW KNOWS MY STORY was the answer to the question, but here comes Tommaso Ciampa anyway! Ciampa and Andrade?

Hell

Yes!

Ciampa gets in the ring, and he offers a handshake to Andrade. The Real Latino Man is trepidatious at first, but they do shake hands. Ciampa gives him the Sicilian Kiss, and Andrade goes to leave, which prompts Ciampa to attack him. He lays out Andrade with a Draping DDT while the fans hum Ciampa’s theme song the whole time.

BREAK IN PROGRESS!

It’s time for the ladies to take the stage! Our Women’s World Tag Team Champions the Brawling Birds will be on commentary for this one.

3-team match for a shot at the Women’s World Tag Team Titles: The Sisters of Sin vs. Wrathlander vs. Divine Dominion

Divine Dominion ambush both teams before the bell and beat up on Harley and Kris. Statlander fights back by sending both Bayne and Kross to the floor. Skye Blue attacks, but Statlander turns the tables. Tag to Harley, Russian leg sweep and an elbow drop from WRATHLANDER! Cameron applies a single leg crab to Skye. Megan and Lena are back, Kross sends Cameron to the floor, and Megan throws Skye onto everyone at ring side! That takes us to the break!

Statlander spikes Julia with a Michinoku Driver for a two as we return. Tag to Harley, but their double team offense is broken up when Skye trips up Harley. They send Statlander from the ring and hit the front face suplex into the double thrust kick. The pin, but Megan bulldozes the pile. Devine Dominion have the sisters up, but they both reverse with stereo DDTs! WRATHLANDER are back, and both teams are on the top rope. Bayne and Kross are back, stereo Tower of Powerbomb! Julia eats a boot into a snap German from Megan and Lena. The cover, but Skye saves her partner. Statlander is back, but she gets kicked in the face by Kross. Divine Intervention, but Statlander counters both of them a double Rana! Julia and Skye try to set up Kris, but Harley shoves Skye off the top rope, and Kris with the Staturday Night Fever for the win!
WINNERS: WRATHLANDER!
TIME: 8:20
THOUGHTS: A little bit more time could have been allocated, but it was fun for what it was. Harley is back, so all is right with the World. Plus, having Alex and Jamie on commentary gave this a boost.
RATING: ***1/2

The main event is coming up, next!

BREAK IN PROGRESS!

Dogs and Bucks, oh my!

AEW World Tag Team Title Match: The Young Bucks (C) vs. The Dogs

The Dogs are rabid, so they attack before the bell. Corner clotheslines, but the Dogs get too out of control, allowing the Bucks to fight back. Grandpa Knox rings the bell as the Bucks unleash their VINTAGE tag team offense! Nick goes to the top, but Connors shoves him off the top rope. Nick manages to escape and tags in Matt. Matt takes it to both Dogs, and he catches Finley in the Locomotion. On the third one, he gets both David and Clark. Stereo Optic from the Bucks, but Finley is out at two. SUPERKICKS for Finley and Connors, Finley avoids the BTE Trigger, and the Bucks hit knees instead. Connors and Finley send the Bucks from the ring, and Connors runs over both Matt and Nick on the floor. That will take us to what should be the final break of the evening.

Matt tries to fight to his brother for a tag as we return. Finley picks up Matt, but Matt reverses with a Rana that sends Finley to the corner, where Nick hits him with an enziguri. Tag to Nick, who slaps both Dogs and then hits a double head scissor. Finley rams his junk into the corner and gets kicked in the head for being an idiot. Leaping double stomp from Nick to Clark, both Bucks head up top, Senton and Elbow combination! The cover, but Finley kicks out at two. The Bucks looking More Bang for Your Buck, but Finley fights it off. He can’t fight off the tandem German, though. Nick takes out Connors on the floor, Matt with a Sliced Bread to Finley for a two.

Double stomp to a prone Finley gets the Bucks a two. Sharpshooter from Matt to Finley, Connors runs in, but Nick takes him down and applies his own Sharpshooter. SUPERKICK PARTY, but Connors directs Matt to kick Nick in the head instead. Connors goes running like a rabid dog, but he runs into a SUPERKICK! The Bucks with SUPERKICKS to Finley, who fires back with a double lariat. The Bucks kip up and hit him again with SUPERKICKS!

The Bucks are back in control, but no Meltzer Driver because Connors SPEARS Nick to the floor! Reverse slam from Finley, but Matt kicks out at two. Total Elimination from the Dogs, but Matt again kicks out at two. Full Clip connects, but Nick saves his brother. Clark feeds Matt to Finley for a Super Powerbomb, but he counters with a Rana! More SUPERKICKS, and the BTE Trigger means a title defense for Matt and Nick!
WINNERS: The Young Bucks (And still!)
TIME: 13:30
THOUGHTS: Fairly good main event. Again, I’m not sure how many people believed that the Dogs were going to win the titles here and would go on to face Fletcher and Knight next week.
RATING: ***1/2

Post-match, the Bucks celebrate their victory, but here comes Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher to attack the Champions. Don Calis even gets in some cheap shots as the fans serenade him. Kevin and Kyle look at the tag team belts and hold them up, and with that, we are done!

8.0
The final score: review Very Good

Grand Slam Collison wasn't nearly as good as Dynamite was, but to be fair, it was going to be a tough ask for it to reach just how good Dynamite was at any rate. Still, we had good to great matches throughout, and we're getting a more solid picture for next Saturday's WrestleDream event. And really, no one can complain about that.
