Johnny Gargano finally got up and battled CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Title in the main event of this week’s WWE Smackdown. Friday night’s episode saw Punk approach Gargano, who was lying down backstage as has been the case for months, and offer him a shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship. Punk walked away and Gargano was already standing when the camera turned back to him, indicating that the match was on.

The match went down in the main event. Before the match, Sami Zayn approached Gargano backstage and told him good luck, asking Gargano to give him the first title match if he won. Gargano agreed.

The match went a little over 13 minutes and saw Gargano push Punk to his limit. Toward the end of the match, Zayn came down to ringside. Zayn went for the title belt, but Kevin Owens came down to attack him. Gunther and Finn Balor also got involved in the chaos before Nick Aldis came down to eject Zayn from ringside. Punk then hit a Go To Sleep for the pinfall.

After the match, Punk said he was sick of Zayn and that he would defend the title against Zayn on next week’s WWE Smackdown. You can see the clip from the segment and match below.

Punk’s Undisputed WWE Championship reign stands at 61 days. He defeated Zayn to win the title on the July 6th episode of WWE Raw.
