Tiger Mask vs. Yoh: They shake hands and we’re friends to begin. Yoh quickly grounds things, and they work some transitions and get back to the feet. Tiger Mask hits a shoulder tackle, frustrating the youngster. Tiger Mask then starts laying in some leg kicks, and that slows Yoh. Yoh opts to ground the action again, but Tiger Mask quickly makes the ropes. Tiger Mask follows with a spin kick, and covers for 2. He starts working submissions on the arm of Yoh, but Yoh fights and makes the ropes. Tiger Mask grounds things again, working knee strikes to the arm of Yoh, and again transitioning into an arm submission until Yoh makes the ropes. Tiger Mask keeps control, laying in kicks, and keeping the quicker Yoh grounded. Yoh‘s selling is really good here. Tiger Mask continues with his slow but effective grumpy old man offense, but Yoh fires up and looks to prove that he’s not the young lion that Tiger Mask used to abuse on the regular. Yoh follows with a superkick, and then follow with a tope. Back in and Yoh does the deal with a falcon arrow for 2. Tiger Mask quickly fires up one last time, and hits a tilt a whirl back breaker to cut off Yoh. He takes him up top and looks for a superplex, but Yoh fights him off and sends him to the mat. Yoh looks to attack, Tiger Mask locks on the double arm bar, but Yoh makes the ropes. Yoh fires back with strikes and kicks, and the superkick connects for 2. Yoh gets a sneaky roll up for 2. They trade pinning combos, Tiger Mask hits the tiger driver and that gets a near fall that the crowd buys. Tiger Mask follows with a head kick; he takes him up top, and hits the butterfly superplex for another good near fall. The tiger suplex finally finishes Yoh. Tiger Mask defeated Yoh @ 13:35 via pin [***] This was a good match, and an interesting example of how differently they are booking Sho & Yoh. Right now, Sho seems to be positioned as more of a competitive star, while Yoh is playing underdog babyface, getting a desperation win on night one, and losing in a hard fought battle in night two. I don’t think that this is a wrong or bad thing, just an observation. Yoh played his role well here, and they worked some really nice near falls that the crowd was into. This was a really well put together match that played to their strengths.
Flip Gordon vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru: Kanemaru looks to attack, but Flip does a bunch of kip ups and then dumps Kanemaru. He wipes him out with a tope, and then brings him back in and Kanemaru cuts him off and hits a running dropkick. To the floor they go and Kanemaru hits a DDT. He tosses Flip into he crowd and works him over with a chair. Flip manages to beat the count back in, but Kanemaru attacks right away; the DDT connects for 2. Flip ties to fire up, but Kanemaru avoids all of his kicks and lays the boots to him. Flip manages to fire back with a sling blade, they work into some counters and Flip hits a pair of dropkicks and covers for 2. Flip heads up top, gets cut off and they battle up top. Flip hops over him and hits a superkick and dropkick, and then follows with a top rope splash that eats knees. Kanemaru hits a slam and then misses the top rope moonsault. Kanemaru uses the ref as a shield and gets a cradle for 2. The DDT follows for another 2. Kanemaru to the ropes and deep impact is cut off by a superkick. Flip hits the running shooting star press for 2. They trade pinning combos, and Flip gets posted. Kanemaru pulls him up but Flip hits kinder surprise. The springboard 450 finishes it. Flip Gordon defeated Yoshinobu Kanemaru @ 10:02 via pin [**½] This was a perfectly solid match, with Flip rebounding to get on the board. While perfectly fine, this felt very flat, with no peaks and valley in terms of creating drama. It was far from bad, but also wasn’t all that interesting.
Taiji Ishimori vs. BUSHI: They work into some back and forth, but BUSHI poses and goes traquilo. Ishimori picks up the pace, but BUSHI cuts him off with a dropkick. BUSHI hits another and lays the boots to Ishimori in the corner. Ishimori counters the draping leg drop and hits the seated senton and grounds the action. Ishimori continues to show off his heel personality with great swagger and cockiness. He then hits his sliding Herman, and covers for 2. He then plays BUSHI’s game and chokes him out with his own shirt. That fires up BUSHI who plants Ishimori with a DDT. The RANA follows and BUSHI follows with kicks and hits a missile dropkick. The suicide dive connects for BUSHI and both are down on the floor. Back in and BUSHI hits a fisherman’s neck breaker for 2. Ishimori rebounds with the back handspring kick, but can’t follow up. BUSHI crotches him up top and follows with a RANA for 2. Ishimori cuts him off, but BUSHI quickly hits the enziguri. Ishimori fights off the code breaker and hits bloody cross, but can’t make the cover. They trade strikes, and then unload with chops. BUSHI hits the destroyer for a really good near fall. BUSHI heads up top, looks for MX, but Ishimori counters with a code breaker; Ishimori finally finishes things with the bloody cross. Taiji Ishimori defeated BUSHI @ 12:20 via pin [***½] Ishimori continues to show off his heel personality with great swagger and cockiness, it’s a nice change from his babyface persona. This was an overall very good match, one of the better BUSHI outings in some time. It was a really consistent performance from both, and gave us some good near falls before BUSHI finally took his second loss as Ishimori goes 2-0.
3.30Will Ospreay vs. ACH: They work some fast paced counters to begin, and into a stand off. ACH dropkicks Ospreay to the floor, follows and gets posted. Ospreay connects with a dropkick and follows with strikes. He posts ACH again, and back in they go. Ospreay continues to work the arm, and grounds ACH. Ospreay lays the boots to him and they trade strikes. Ospreay drops ACH with a big right, and continues to work him over in the corner. ACH cuts things off and counters into a roiling splash. They work into a fun and fast paced counter sequence, and ACH finishes it off with a double stomp. ACH counters Cheeky Nando, and hits a German for 2. He then lays in chops, rocking Ospreay. Osprey then fires back with kicks but ACH lays in more chops. Ospreay cuts him off, attacking the bad arm and hits the back handspring kick. The corner dropkick connects and Ospreay hits the running shooting star press for 2. Ospreay looks to springboard in and hits the flying forearm. He looks for storm breaker, but ACH counters into a pinning combo for 2. Ospreay cuts that off with an enziguri but ACH counters the oscutter into the cradled suplex for 2. Ospreay sidesteps a charge and ACH crashes to he floor. Ospreay looks for a Sasuke special, but ACH cuts him of with an enziguri. ACH looks to suplex him to the floor, Ospreay fights, and cuts him off with a jumping kick. Ospreay now hits the Sasuke special and back in, the shooting star press from the top gets a great near fall. ACH cuts off Ospreay as he looks to go back up top, so Ospreay attacks the arm. Ospreay up top, but gets cut off with a jump kick for 2. ACH looks for a German, and finally gets it. He fires up and hits charging knees but Ospreay counters the brainbuster into a stunner. Ospreay fires up with kicks, ACH counters storm breaker, and follows with chops. Ospreay hits the Robinson special and storm breaker and ACH is finally done. Will Ospreay defeated ACH @ 16:00 via pin [****] Ospreay gets on the board as both move to 1-1. This was a great match, with both guys again delivering in heir second match; it had the athleticism you’d expect, a good back and forth layout, and invested crowd who were into the near falls. Most importantly, ACH easily looked as if he belonged in there with the champion, while Ospreay picked up a rebound win after losing to Ishimori. If they keep it up, both are in store for a really special tournament.
