Darby Allin Retains World Title Against Tommaso Ciampa On AEW Dynamite

Darby Allin survived the first challenge of his AEW World Championship reign, defeating Tomasso Ciampa on AEW Dynamite to successfully defend his title. Allin faced the Psycho Killer in the main event of Wednesday’s show and had a fight on his hands, but came out victorious.

The match went back and forth from the get-go, with champion and challenger trading shots at the bell. Ciampa got busted open early in the match but continued to battle, using the referee as a decoy at one point to take control. Ciampa even hit an Air Raid Crash from the top rope to the floor.

Ciampa tried to put Allin away at various points but the champion kept kicking out. Ciampa went for a Scorpion Deathlock but Allin escaped and applied the move himself. Ciampa nearly made it to the ropes but was pulled back to the center of the ring and Allin said back into the hold, forcing Ciampa to tap at about 18 minutes.

After the match, Ciampa shook Allin’s hand, bowed to him and put the title on his shoulder. Brody King then came out after Ciampa left and said he is proud of Allin, and will be challenging him for the World Title on next week’s Dynamite.

You can see clips from the match and post-match segment below. Allin’s reign stands at seven days, having defeated MJF for the title on last week’s AEW Dynamite.

Post-match, Allin wants to shake Ciampa’s hand, Tommaso shakes his hand and bows to Allin. Tommaso puts the title on the shoulder of Allin. Nice! Ciampa stalks off a sad panda, and Brody King is here! King says that he is proud of Allin, and he just spoke to Tony Khan, and next week, it will be Brody and Darby for the World Title on Dynamite! King shakes Allin’s hand and he leaves, allowing Allin to soak it all in. We see the graphic for next week’s match, and with that, we are done!
