Dark Sheik Says She Walked Out Of GCW After They Brought in Drake Wuertz

Dark Sheik says that bringing Drake Wuertz into GCW led her to walking out on the promotion. As a refresher, the controversial former NXT referee made an appearance at GCW Homecoming in mid-August. The move drew criticism because of Wuertz’ past; he publicly argued against mask mandates during the COVID pandemic, expressed support for QAnon conspiracy theories and reportedly had a negative reaction to a speech by Triple H where he essentially said that all people, races, genders, and religions were welcomed in WWE NXT.
Sheik, who was a regular for GCW from 2021 to earlier this year, posted to Twitter on Sunday to note that she walked out on the company after that. She wrote:
“when they brought in drake and I was the only one who walked out, im pretty sure I became the last outlaw.
“But if a signed guy took a week off for injury. now its ‘We’re all gcw'”
The second sentence is in reference to current GCW World Champion Joseph Sawyer having missed some events due to an injury.
Wuertz apologized after his appearance to the live crowd for his past comments and actions. GCW owner Brett Lauderdale addressed Wuertz’ appearance in the promotion after the blowback, noting that Wuertz had been there for him years ago and helped him get through addiction issues. He noted that he believes Wuertz is genuinely contrite, adding that Wuertz has work to do in order to show he’s changed and if he is proven wrong, he will admit it was a mistake to give him a second chance.
