Dave Bautista Talks About Action Roles & How He Avoided Them Early In His Acting Career

Dave Bautista has been very busy with his movie career. His next film released will be Trap House, which comes out this Friday. Bautista recently did an interview with Collider where he talked about the film and his recent action roles.

On the best part of taking action roles:

“Um the best part? Um yeah. Yeah. I don’t know. It’s It’s different with each film. You know, action is always different. Um, I the film that I’m prepared for now I I think is the most challenging action-wise that I anything that I’ve ever done in you know in my film career. But I think uh you know with this this film in particular I think the challenge was that we were kind of learning on the job. You know, we didn’t have this wasn’t obviously not a big budget film. So, we didn’t have built-in rehearsal time and I was also very limited on my schedule because at the time we were filming this, I was just booked on all kinds of uh other projects and we really had been wanting to film this for years. So, we just we found a window and we just, you know, we went with it, but it was really it was a hard press schedule. So I learned a lot of the stuff like on the day and for me that’s it’s kind of fun because it makes it really challenging and at the end of the day if you can pull it off it just it’s kind of gratifying. So I think it’s but probably that a lot of stuff I was learning on the day and I think it turned out pretty good. I’m pretty proud of the final product. So I think that’s it is kind of sitting back reflecting on how stressed I was about it and kind of at the end of the day just feeling good about it and then seeing the final product and feeling like pretty proud about it.”

Dave Bautista’s career has been different from many other wrestlers that have moved on to film, in that he’s seeked out a number of different roles. Early on, he tried to stay away from action.

On Not Seeking Out Action Roles Early In His Acting Career

“Well, the reason behind that earlier in my career is because I didn’t want to get, that wasn’t why I set out to be an actor and I thought once I get in that lane, I’m going to be stuck in that lane, and if I don’t get that, get roles that require me to do some dramatic acting or some comedic acting or anything that’s outside of the box of action, then I’ll just be stuck in that rut, and that wasn’t what I got into this business for. But then when I started, you know, getting these action films, you get them. You got to start out owning it a bit, a little bit. Cause people when they are watching action films, they want to see an action hero. So have those moments where you give some heart to the story, but you got to have some of those moments where you’re just a badass. You’re just kicking ass and taking names because that’s what action heroes do. So that’s it. Just trying to find that balance.”

Batista recently talked about missing out on the Peacemaker role, which ended up going to John Cena.
