Update On Why Stephanie Vaquer Missed WWE Raw

Stephanie Vaquer missed this week’s WWE Raw, forcing the company to change its plans for the Women’s World Championship picture. Her scheduled main-event match against Becky Lynch was modified.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Vaquer couldn’t compete because of an illness. She was scheduled to face Lynch in a number-one contender’s match to determine the next challenger for Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan. He said Vaquer’s illness was not considered particularly serious, but her return timeline remains uncertain.

Meltzer stated (via WrestlingInc), “She’s ill. I was told it’s nothing terribly serious or anything, but she’s ill, and she’s out [indefinitely]. Indefinitely in the sense that it’s not like it’s a week; it’s something more serious.

He continued, “I shouldn’t even say that; it’s something that’s indeterminate yet as far as when she’ll be back. But that’s why they didn’t do that match.”

Meltzer also ruled out the possibility of Vaquer’s absence being part of a storyline. Her illness is reportedly unrelated to the ankle injury she suffered at Money in the Bank on October 10.

He explained, “It wasn’t about an injury, and it wasn’t a worked storyline. They were going to do the match on Monday night; she got sick and could not come. That’s why they did the Becky Lynch-Liv Morgan, and that’s why they did the DQ [finish] because they didn’t want to beat Becky Lynch.”

With Stephanie Vaquer unavailable, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce announced that Lynch would challenge Morgan directly for the championship instead of facing another No. 1 contender. Morgan retained her title after Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez interfered, resulting in a disqualification.
