Fightful recently spoke with David Finlay and asked him about his contract status with NJPW, as he went for years without one while working for them. He had a handshake agreement with New Japan from 2015 to 2019. He said that once AEW started operations, NJPW wanted him to sign. So he now has a contract, which he signed around the same time he got injured.

He noted that he could have had his father make a call to WWE when he started training to become a wrestler. However he wanted to earn his place in the wrestling business. He thinks his father, Fit Finlay, could still wrestle and according to Fightful, he sounded like he’d be open to teaming with him in NJPW. fit trains weekly and thinks he could still wrestle, eight years after his last match.

David said that he hopes NJPW USA’s STRONG brand sticks around, as he’s enjoying the competition between the USA and Japan branches of NJPW.
