Dwayne Johnson Nominated for Golden Globe

The Smashing Machine garnered plenty of attention due to Dwayne Johnson’s starring role. That attention didn’t exactly translate to ticket sales. However, Johnson & his friends behind the movie might end up having the last laugh.

The Golden Globes announced their nominees for their eighty-third edition early this morning. The show typically serves as the start of Award Season, and a good indication of who will be in consideration for the Academy Awards two months later.

Dwayne Johnson had yet to be nominated for a Golden Globe or an Oscar during his acting career. That changed on Monday morning, as Johnson was nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. It’s one of the most prestigious Golden Globe Awards. Johnson’s competition for the award includes Joel Edgerton (Train Dreams), Oscar Isaac (Frankenstein), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent) & Jeremy Allen White (Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere).

Johnson wasn’t the only actor in The Smashing Machine nominated by the Golden Globes. Emily Blunt was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Johnson’s character’s girlfriend.

Dwayne Johnson has been reticent to talk about Oscar buzz for his movie. His Golden Globes nomination is a sign that there just might be some buzz.
