Gunther Comments on Upcoming Match with Cody Rhodes at WWE Clash In Italy

Gunther previews his upcoming high-stakes match.

The Ring General will challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash in Italy on May 31. Speaking to the Italian Wrestling Channel earlier today, Gunther expressed his excitement for the high-stakes match, claiming that it won’t “disappoint on any level.”

He also spoke about being in the world title picture again and possibly receiving babyface reactions from the Italian crowd during the match.

On competing for a WWE World Title again

“Well, got to have goals to reach, I guess, right? But it’s the ultimate goal of every professional wrestler is you want to be a champion, right? It’s what I’m here to do.”

On upcoming match with Cody Rhodes at Clash in Italy

“I think he’s done his bit, and I’m in the process of doing my bit as well. I think it will not disappoint on any level, and yeah, [I’m] looking forward to it.”

On possibly receiving babyface reactions from the Italian crowd

“Obviously, we’re in Europe. That’s my home turf. That happened similar before, but it’s nothing that shakes me or something. I even think it makes it a little bit more interesting, to be honest. Might feel a little bit like an away game for Cody.

Gunther is a two-time World Heavyweight Champion. This will be the first time he’ll compete for the WWE Title. His previous meeting with Cody Rhodes, at Crown Jewel 2024, ended in a disappointment, as The American Nightmare emerged victorious to become the inaugural Men’s Crown Jewel Champion.

The Austrian viciously attacked Rhodes to close out last night’s SmackDown.
