Gunther Explains Why He Struggles To Give WWE Career Advice

Gunther says his path through WWE has been so different from most wrestlers’ that he sometimes struggles to offer advice on navigating the company’s system.

Speaking with Rompipallone, the former World Heavyweight Champion reflected on his rise from the independent wrestling scene to becoming one of WWE’s top stars. According to Gunther, his experience does not line up with the more traditional route many current WWE talents have followed.

Gunther explained that he arrived in WWE after already spending years developing his identity, style, and understanding of wrestling outside the company system. Because of that, he said he never really felt like someone who had to learn how to “play the game” in the same way many younger wrestlers do after signing with WWE.

“No, I don’t know. The thing is, I didn’t have the typical WWE career, I would say, because I’ve been off the radar for most of my career, which helped me in WWE. Basically, come in, and I figured myself out already, and yeah, that’s why it’s sometimes hard to give people advice on how to play the game in the WWE system and stuff, because I had my very special journey when it came to that. I think that’s something you grow into as well over the time. But sometimes I feel like, obviously, I do feel like I belong, but sometimes I feel like I’m still a little bit of an outcast when it comes to that. But I think it’s a very interesting position I’m in, so I’m enjoying it how it is.”

Despite that, Gunther made it clear he is comfortable with where he stands in WWE today and is enjoying the position he has earned on the roster.

Since arriving in WWE, Gunther has established himself as one of the company’s most dominant heels through championship reigns and high-profile matches across NXT, Raw, and premium live events.

He currently remains part of WWE’s main event picture and is scheduled to challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at Clash in Italy.
