It’s the last show before Halloween Havoc and that means it’s time to finalize the card. We probably already know most of the card but there is still a big wheel that needs to be spun to determine some details. Throw in the Dusty Classic needing some finalists and we should be in for a big night. Let’s get to it.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semifinals: Romeo Moreno/Noam Dar vs. Vanity Project

Non-title. Moreno gets jumped to start fast and Dar (banged up after a weekend match with the Project) gets caught in the wrong corner. Dar loses his bandages but gets sent into the corner for the tag off to Moreno. The Project sends Dar into the steps, leaving Moreno to make the save with a dive.

We take a break and come back with Moreno fighting out of a chinlock as we get an insert video of Grayson Waller going to Tony D’Angelo’s house. Dar dives over for the tag back to Moreno and house is quickly cleaned. A suplex/slam combination gets two on Smokes so he rips at the cut on Dar’s forehead.

Baylor escapes a cross armbreaker and gets two off a neckbreaker. Hit It And Quit It connects, with Moreno making the save. Dar’s ankle lock sends Smokes out to the floor, followed by a collision to send them into different corners. Moreno is in for a super TKO to Baylor (that looked great) for two and Hit It And Quit It backfires. A high/low finishes Smokes to send Dar and Moreno to the finals at 14:12.

Rating: B. Well there’s your title match if Dar and Moreno win the thing, which is probably the big idea. I’m not wild on having the champions lose, but at least it should have a reason for the whole thing. Dar and Moreno are feeling like a good team and that’s something NXT has needing for a long time.

Tony D’Angelo rants to Robert Stone that Grayson Waller better not have hurt his family. Then he leaves to go after Waller, making me wonder why he was yelling at Stone in the first place when he has some important things to worry about.

Cruz Montana says the worst part about last week was the phone call that he had to make. For a split second, he was a different Montana and the version that he spent years trying to stop being. Now though his past comes with a future.

Lizzie Rain vs. Chantel Monroe

They lock up to start and Monroe snapmares her down and resorts to mockery. Rain gets in a headlock takeover but is knocked into the corner just as fast as we take a break. We come back with Monroe grabbing a swinging neckbreaker for two. Rain is sent into the corner but wins a fight on the apron to take over. A pumphandle suplex lets Rain chop away in the corner, followed by a spinebuster. Rain tries a fireman’s carry but some shots to the neck put her down, allowing Monroe to grab a rollup, with the rope, for the pin at 8:29.

Rating: C. Monroe never impressed me on Evolve and this wasn’t exactly a start that is making me change my mind. She’s completely fine but not exactly memorable, which granted can absolutely be fixed if she’s given a bit of time. For now though, an acceptable start and not much more.

Izzi Dame can’t believe that Zaria has fallen apart so quickly. Now she’s ready to take the Women’s North American Title.

Saquon Shugars vs. Sean Legacy

Shugars kicks him into the ropes to start but gets backdropped. A quick moonsault gives Legacy two and we take a break. We come back with Shugars pulling him down into a chinlock. That’s broken up so Shugars grabs a backbreaker into a Downward Spiral for two more. Shugars dropkicks him but walks into a superkick for a double down.

Sliced Bread out of the corner gives Legacy two more and he springboards into a reverse implant DDT for two on Shugars. Back up and Shugars gets him up for a torture rack faceplant for two of his own, thankfully moving WAY over so Legacy could get his foot on the rope. Shugars misses a basement lariat and gets caught with a running Spanish Fly to give Legacy the pin at 10:23.

Rating: B-. That’s more than a surprise as Legacy hasn’t been doing much and Shugars has at least been in some high profile matches. I’m not sure what they have in mind for either of them but Legacy might at least be getting something. Shugars on the other hand isn’t doing so well, and that’s not a good sign for either his short or long term prospects.

Tony D’Angelo went home and got a phone call from Grayson Waller, with D’Angelo going after him again.

Kam Hendrix plays basketball and complains about EK Prosper.

Myles Borne and Tavion Heights are being separated by security in the ring. Heights talks about how Borne always jumps him from behind because he’s an arrogant backstabbing b****. Borne says Heights is the problem who dragged him down because Borne has had success on his own. Heights is ready to show the world what he is again and suplex Borne all over the place. Heights promises a beating that Borne can actually hear and the fight is almost on. Cue Danhausen’s voice to order the wheel be spun, with a Weapons Wild match coming up. Good enough promo, but that’s hardly an inspiring stipulation.

Robert Stone asks Darkstate what was up with Cruz Montana last week. Darkstate mocks Montana and is ready for a rematch with Santana vs. Dion Lennox. Stone is ok with the match, but it’s going to be unsanctioned. That has Darkstate thinking again but it seems to be set.

Tony D’Angelo goes to the restaurant to find Grayson Waller but only finds a note: “Meet me where it all started – The Champ”.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semifinals: Galeno/El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. Hank & Tank

Non-title. Galeno cleans house to start fast and it’s off to Wagner to punch away at Tank. Hank makes a save though and Tank gets in a clothesline, setting up the early chinlock. We go split screen to see Robert Stone say there can be no interference in tonight’s North American Title match. Wagner sends Hank & Tank outside for a big dive to give Galeno two and we take a break.

We come back with Wagner fighting up and bringing Galeno back in to clean house. Everything breaks down and a belly to back suplex/running powerbomb combination gets two on Galeno. Tank is sent outside for a big running splash off the apron, followed by a belly to back suplex to Hank back inside. Galeno drops a frog splash for two and all four get up for the strike off. Hank & Tank shoulder Galeno down and Hank’s top rope splash gets the pin at 10:54.

Rating: B-. The ending was pretty flat as Hank & Tank just won, giving us a pair of champions losing in one night. Granted Hank & Tank getting a AAA Tag Team Title shot in Mexico would hardly be a stretch. I was expecting the opposite result here, but Hank & Tank are definitely bigger stars in NXT.

Last night at Raw, Kelani Jordan complained about her upcoming title defense to General Manager Adam Pearce. Iyo Sky came in and arguing ensued.

Kendal Grey rants about Kelani Jordan and tells Wren Sinclair to take her out at Halloween Havoc.

Here is Zilla Fatu to say Birthright doesn’t matter, which allows Birthright, dressed as druids, to jump him from behind and crush his bad hand again.

Shiloh Hill is still experimenting with the mists and has learned how to use them himself. Then he sprays black mist at the camera. This story is kind of brilliant in a ridiculous way.

North American Title: EK Prosper vs. Jackson Drake

Drake is defending and the Vanity Project is here but can’t interfere making this….a perfectly normal match? Prosper flips over Drake to start and escapes a running hurricanrana. Drake misses a charge into the corner and gets clotheslined, with the Project pulling him to the floor. Prosper gets in a big dive but Myra Lockwood’s distraction lets Drake get in a cheap shot as we take a break.

We come back with Prosper winning a slugout with a big clothesline and a tornado DDT connecting for two. A Shining Wizard misses though and Drake’s running boot gets two more. Prosper gets in a spinning shot to the face for two more but Drake gives him a springboard reverse Spanish Fly. Drake goes up but gets caught with a super hurricanrana. There’s a poisonrana to Drake, which draws Lockwood onto the apron. Kam Hendrix shoves Prosper off the top and the running knee retains the title at 12:38.

Rating: B-. If Stone doesn’t say something about that result, this is one of the dumbest endings I’ve seen in forever. Rather than barring the Project from ringside, he allowed them to be out there but be on their best behavior? That just makes everyone else look dumb, so hopefully this is just round one rather than the big final situation.

Zaria threatens horrible things for Izzi Dame.

Halloween Havoc rundown.

Here is Grayson Waller to call out Tony D’Angelo. He’s been waiting for this since they started but that’s the past. Now D’Angelo’s future runs through him and no one can touch Waller right now. Cue D’Angelo in the parking lot, with Waller charging out to meet him so the brawl is on. Security can’t stop them as D’Angelo throws him into the back of the truck and pounds away to end the show. It helped enough here, as D’Angelo at least feels like a bigger challenger. Granted maybe not PPV title shot challenger but someone has to do it.

Chantel Monroe b. Lizzie Rain – Rollup while holding the rope

They’re certainly trying with Halloween Havoc and Danhausen adds a special kind of charm, but the show is still only feeling ok. The tournament final taking place next week is probably a good idea, though I’m not sure how well Saturday is going to go without a tag match to eat up time. Anyway, nice enough job here as I’m at least a bit more interested in Halloween Havoc, though it could be far better.
