Jacy Jayne took the long road to the top of the NXT Women’s Division, something she reflected on in a new interview. The NXT Women’s Champion outlasted many of her (former) allies to become the leader of the highly-praised division. Jayne next defends her title against Tatum Paxley at Busted Open Radio for a new interview and you can see highlights below:
On Being A Main Eventer At NXT Halloween Havoc:
“I feel like in a way it’s just me accomplishing my dreams. You know, I started watching wrestling at a very young age. I was like six, I think? And anytime WWE was in town, my parents would take me to the shows. I had all the merch. All my Christmases, all my gifts were just WWE shirts and action figures or whatever it was. And I always envisioned myself being here. I didn’t know how I was gonna get here, but I knew I would be here. So now that I’m in real time living it, my 6-year-old self is — her mind is blown. The fact that I’ve been able to accomplish all that I have, I’m honored to be a part of all of this. And it’s a position that I don’t take lightly at all.
“I love every day that I get to be a champion. I love every day that I get to work for this company. And Halloween havoc is a huge pay-per-view. I won the tag team titles for the first time at Halloween Havoc. So it’s a very special pay-per-view to me in general. And I’m very excited to walk in as Women’s Champion this year.”
On Lainey Reid Joining Fatal Influence:
“I think it’s still too soon to really say anything. We had our first match, me and Lainey, together last night. Before that we had had a singles match, and I felt like we had great chemistry right off the bat. I definitely think Lainey is a huge — I don’t wanna say upgrade ’cause that’s so mean. But you know, she’s definitely gonna fit the part and she’s gonna do a good job. She’s a great worker. She’s like a sponge, she listens to everything, she takes everything in really well.
“But you know, I’m kind of used to new partners all the time. This isn’t anything new to me. It’s all part of adapting. You know, things change all the time. This is show business. Last minute changes, things you never thought would happen. You just kind of have to go with the flow and figure it out as you go.”
On Being a Mainstay in the Division:
“Yeah, I’ve definitely had an interesting journey. It’s been ups and downs like everybody else. But when I was not doing much, I was working my butt off to make sure that when the time comes I’m gonna be ready for it. And I always wanted to show consistency. Like, if I’m consistent and I’m reliable then at the end of the day, you can’t really say anything negative about me. You know you can throw me in the ring with anybody, and I’ll put on a good match. You know you can throw me in the ring for a promo segment and I’m gonna bring the best out of whoever I’m going at.
“That’s what I want people to think of me as like the reliable, consistent worker through all the phases of NXT. I’ve been through all of them. I’ve stayed on TV through all of them, and I just kept getting better.”
