Jeff Jarrett knows that the Tommaso Ciampa and Andrade El Idolo pants spot from AEW WrestleDream wasn’t for everyone, but he thinks it worked. The comedy moment happened during El Idolo’s National Championship defense against Ciampa, where El Idolo ended up sans pants at one point and Ciampa pinned the garments, only to have them kick out.

Jarrett, who is of course part of the AEW crew, spoke about the spot and comedy spots in general during his My World podcast. He noted that the crowd reaction proved the spot worked and said that the notion of comedy spots not drawing money is very “situational.” You can see highlights below (per F4W Online):

On the Ciampa Pants Spot:

“I mean, ‘Funny don’t draw money’ is such a situational [concept]. I just don’t think you can paint it as — look, creative is subjective. Did you hear the reaction? They loved it. So I just think—and I get it, to each his own. It’s [that sort of spot] not for everybody.”

On Foley Being Able to Switch Between Comedy and Serious Moments:

“Mick Foley is very, very good at that. Pull a freaking sock out, get the pop and the Mandible Claw, and they go crazy. But you watch his matches when he was in his prime and he’d do that, but boy, oh boy, just keep the ball rolling.”
