Jim Duggan Compares His Generation of Wrestling to Today’s, Says He Likes Kevin Owens’ Brawling Style

During a recent interview with multiple media outlets arranged by BetVictor Online Casino, WWE Hall of Famer Hacksaw Jim Duggan spoke about his generation of wrestling versus the current generation. Duggan noted that today’s presentation more resembles Cirque du Soleil, and he also thinks today’s wrestlers are more athletic, albeit less creative.

Additionally, Jim Duggan did specifically mention Kevin Owens, saying he likes his brawling style. Below are some highlights:

Jim Duggan on the Style and Presentation in His Era Compared to the Current Era

“Back in my day, it was an arena show. So if you’re sitting in the arena and Demolition walks by, or Nikolai Volkoff walks by, you’re like, ‘Holy shit, man, they’re big, impressive men.’ Now it’s kind of the pendulum has swung, whereas television — and we joke — it’s almost like Cirque du Soleil. But it’s popular. It’s hard to argue with success. But yeah, it’s a different show. It’s a television show now.”

Duggan on His Generation Versus Today’s Generation of Wrestlers

“I think my generation of guys were much more creative, because we all came up with our own gimmick. I think this generation of guys are much more athletic.”

His Thoughts on Kevin Owens’ Brawling Style

“I really don’t watch it too much anymore. After 40 years, the last thing I want to watch when I’m off is wrestling. That’d be like a cop watching Cops. The little bit I’ve seen, Kevin Owens — I guess now he’s starting to be an old-timer, though — but Kevin, I kind of like his kind of brawling style. People say, ‘Hacksaw, what was your favourite move?’ I said, ‘I kick and punch.’”

Jim Duggan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2011. Meanwhile, Kevin Owens faces off against CM Punk in a No Holds Barred Match tomorrow night on WWE SmackDown.
